ThreeSpeech? Will the new harmony mode be available to current Singstar owners via an update?
Comment by Andronix — Apr 15, 2008 @ 4:18 pm
Doesn’t this defeat the object! You will have to go back to changing discs when someone wants a song of the other disc! Surely that is one of the best features of the downloadable content on the PS3!!!
Give me strength!

As #3 - will this be available as DLC for current Singstar owners??
I know that the Disc is a good revenue stream, but as I bought the original version - why should I go out and buy this updated one when i already have access to the SingStore etc..
Come on, i thought the future was in DLC anyways

‘Over 300 tracks currently on the singstore’… er this is a ball-faced LIE. There are currently about 170 in ALL languages.
And if some of these new features don’t make their way to current singstar owners there’s gonna be a ruckus I reckon - disc swapping was so last gen…
Comment by Tom F — Apr 15, 2008 @ 4:42 pm
@10: total right, what??? Are you serious, this is just like the PS2 buying Disc after disc…..what happened to being able to download songs? this is really getting on my nerves now. Sold all of my pS2 discs cause I thought all of the tracks would be on singstore and now this? BAD MOVE SONY
Comment by Pete — Apr 15, 2008 @ 4:48 pm
nice to see SONY taking another leap backwards with the firmware update today. OK so the store loads in a flash but to have to sit there for 5 minutes and wait for the icons is a bit much.
hopefully it’ll be sorted soon…
i even quit out and reloaded it to see if it had cached the image files, but alas nope. sat there waiting again.

Oh so thats why the sing store does NOT have 300 songs. It because Sony lied like normal. Please dear god FIRE EVERY SINGLE MANAGER IN SCEE they are absolutely stupid **** **s.
Is this all Sony Europe can release crappy sholveware?
Comment by carl — Apr 15, 2008 @ 4:58 pm
Lol, ok i am a fan of the Singstar game and i see its potential, but there are too many open questions here:
1) will the update, i.e. the harmony mode, be available as a free patch or at least as an update for a small fee?
2) Will the songs be available in the Singstore?
3) Can you copy the songs to the harddisk in order to avoid changing discs?
4) What is the overall policy regarding 1) and 2). There _must_ be a policy or everyone will feel cheated.
Until these questions are clarified, i won’t even consider spending another dime on anything Singstar related. The fact that they are again advertising 300+ tracks is simply ridiculous. Also, there is still no word about a fix for the voice delay/latency problem.

I forked out for the first one…I had better not have to buy another version to get the new function (which im not bothered about) and remote play (which I AM bothered about).
Three Speech, can you confirm whether “volume 1″ will be patched with the new features as I think we’re getting a bit screwed if not!
Also…will there ever be the option to export our vids?! I read before the release of “volume 1″ that you were able to transfer your video performances to a PSP?!! Im sure it was on the official features list but never actually materialised!
oh, and Im sure the songs will appear on Singstore sooner or later too!
Peace

Hi ThreeSpeech
I’m one of the lurkers that you mentioned a while ago - this is my first comment on your site.
Really, I just want to echo some of the earlier comments above. I like SingStar much more than I thought I would do. I play it when I’m drunk and have great fun with it. I don’t want to collect disks, I want to (and I’m quoting the press release):
Get my favourite party tracklist ready!
I don’t want to find that at 2.30am when I can barely read the lyrics on the screen I need to press the PS button, quit the game, switch the disks etc. and so on. That isn’t the ‘next-gen’ experience I have been going out of my way to sell to my friends (and I have - two have bought PS3s in the last three months because I bang on about it).
I really want the extra features, I’m even willing to pay £1 a song, despite the fact I could get 30 on a £20 disk, but I don’t want to fanny around with blu-ray disks and lean precariously towards my telly when I’m drunk.
Please tell me I don’t have to, or that someone can fix it so I don’t have to.
Comment by TheFamousKevin — Apr 15, 2008 @ 6:49 pm
So volume one was basically a waste of our time, as yet again Sony have bounced back to their old mechanism after the claims that everything will be done via the SingStore? Makes me a bit annoyed that I purchased it in the first place…
Comment by Cei — Apr 15, 2008 @ 8:05 pm
again the first adaptors gets screwed again
couple of pro-misses
still no wireless mics
still no 300 songs, which were promissed as soon as the game arrive (sep 2k7),then the end of the year 2007
still no HD songs (all are SD)
still Cock robins “REMEMBER THE PROMISE YOU MADE” is available for SO-NOT.
if we can change discs, then we should also be able to use the PS2-discs,and let the developers stop whining about “its not possible”
if we can put a monkey on the moon, getting available content in a superior platform, ain’t MTI-physics 101
while we’r @it anyway,
get rid of those INDY-CRAP songs, which 99% never heard of and start putting in some quality 90’s EUROdance music.
Comment by terrortime — Apr 15, 2008 @ 8:37 pm
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!?!?!?!?!
It is the most stupid thing i had ever seen on ps3(ok, not the most…but close). You promise the wireless mic’s, i have the wired more than 6 months now, and still no wireless…
YOU GUYS TOLD US THAT IN PS3 ONLY 1….let say it better…ONE…Bluray will be out…because it is very stupid to said to everybody…”Ok ok…the party is fun, and Sheila there sing the stupid britney again…what does paul want to sing now???…ups…Paul McCartney…oh yeh…just let me change the bluray because the singstar enterprise is stupid…ok lets go…and after i want The Killers with Mr.Brightside…I WILL HAVE TO CHANGED AGAIN…AND THE BEST IS THE GREAT SD VIDEOS ON MY 50″ PLASMA TV…IT IS SO GREAT THE PS3 GENERATION…THAT SEEMS THAT WE STILL WITH A PS2 IN SINGSTAR!!!”….
Well…i guess we will all have to pass this…because everything changed in the ps3 singstar…now i sing about 2 meters from tv…and my sofa is 3,5 meters away from tv…i love the singstore…because the great Jack Johnson songs…and the others 400 songs that we have…and at last, the great HD VIDEOS…IN MY GOD DAMN 50″ 1080P PHILIPS PLASMA TELEVISION…
For the ones that didn’t notice…i was being ironic…
Thanks very much for the stupid great new…

After shelling out over £130 on the ps2 singstar and £60+ on the PS3 vol.1 (including DLC)
These 30 “new” songs and harmony mode/remote play features better be available for download.
Still p**sed off about the lack of 300 songs available at launch of vol.1… what was it 60 available at launch and most of them taken from the ps2 discs. BTW loving the SD videos - where are the HD videos the gamebox promises
This along with the constant game/Home delays… p**spoor Euro PSN content… shoddy ports means that the 360 in Game is looking more and more tempting everyday.
I bought the PS3 on launch day.. the PS2 on launch day.. the PSP on launch day… the original playstation when the first Resi Evil came out.
Come on Sony please show the same loyalty to me (and all other PS3 owners) and don’t alienate your customers.
Comment by Pauly454 — Apr 15, 2008 @ 9:00 pm
So, it’s either Sony knew that they’d be following this route anyway, which is why the SingStore has been so slow to get running, or the fact that the SS is taking longer than they expected to run smoothly, so out comes another disc to make sure the cashcow doesn’t die.
BUZZ with PS2 controllers and multiple discs for your next gen system anyone..?

Threespeech - Not going to shoot the messenger so thanks for the offer to get some answers again, it took the collective power of us whining end users that keep Sony going to get answers about the Singstar updates last time so hopefully our moaning will get answers again.
Is it a case that they released Singstar too early and not enough people bought it so lets release it again and get a few more suckers, next time when the console picks up more users (around MGS4 time I s’pose) we can make them all buy it again, mwah ha ha ha
Comment by daz — Apr 15, 2008 @ 9:50 pm
Are you all on drugs ? If you put the search mode on “all languages”, there are, already, 322 songs (from 170 artists). You can see the complete list, updated each week, here :
http://heroesnvillains.free.fr/?page_id=359
So Sony is right, there are really more than 300 songs.
Comment by Jenny — Apr 16, 2008 @ 12:01 am
I for one can see that it is a marketing necessity to keep on releasing new Singstar disks. As the original Singstar PS3 gets a bit long in the tooth it will sell less and less. For instance the songs will look more outdated and it will get less shelf space and places stocking it if it is not a “Chart” title. As physical disks are still by far the dominant way games are bought to keep Singstar popular they need to have a current product every 6 months or so.
The question is really how to do this whilst satisfying the existing customer base. To my mind any additional functionality should definitely be a free download. I’ve already spent more on DLC than a second disk would cost so I would expect to be looked after. Secondly any tracks of the disk should be able to be stored on the PS3 to avoid the backwards step of changing disks. £20 for 30 songs still represents better value than the Singstore so many existing users will happily buy it. Finally they should ensure that all tracks from additional disks are available on the Singstore, but only after the release of the disk version. This way people can continue to buy as they please and will not end up having to pay for any tracks twice.
Hopefully those sensible bods in SCEE are reading this and saying they are well on top of these issues. Unfortunately given the shambles so far on Singstar PS3 it seems likely they will upset the userbase one way or another.

I was going to pick up Singstar but I might hang now until this version comes out. I’d be interested to know the answer to some of the questions voiced above, as being a relative new comer to the world of PS3, there’s a lot of things I’m still finding out. Do we know when this is likely to be released and how much it’ll cost?
Wired controllers don’t really bother me, but are the cables of a reasonable length? How do you plug 2 mics in when the Eye Vision Camera is plugged into one of the USB’s? (I have the 40Gb model with 2 front USBs)
Comment by Monkey Rimmer — Apr 16, 2008 @ 8:41 am
Thanks Threespeech, i’ll await the news. Hopefully Sony will see sense and release the new features as Paid DLC.
I’m being realistic here, you know the ‘Harmony’ mode won’t be free, so I would be happy with a nominal fee in this situation, and have the tracks available to download on the store.

Thanks Three Speech. As a PS3 SingStar owner, my concerns are the same as have already been mentioned. SingStar is an amazing game, but we have been made promises that haven’t really been kept. I know I definitely won’t be buying another disc, but I would like to see the ability to update my version, either free (doubtful) or cheap (reasonable) or free to those who have purchased X amount of songs, for example…
Comment by Bentley — Apr 16, 2008 @ 9:15 am
@35 Good work threespeech. Thanks for that as its obvious that people are, in general, quite excited for Singstar PS3 and the Singstore, however are worried that its not being supported in the way it should.
If Sony released a “Volume 2″ DLC pack which included all the Volume 2 and the Harmony Mode Patch for the same cost as the disc I’d pay! It works out cheaper than individual tracks AND Sony don’t have to pay for the disc or box!
Anyone else agree?

Pure marketing sense should steer Sony in the right direction… i cant see many PS3 owners with Singstar going out and buying a new disc (i wont) but if there’s was a way to pay for the update through DLC then I just might… (during one of those drunken Singstar moments i tend to have too frequently)
Comment by Roscoe73UK — Apr 16, 2008 @ 10:47 am
Singstar 2 is going to be a huge commercial success, *because* Sony made it cheaper. It’s got bigger margins when suckers like us are forced to buy discs instead of just downloading a few party favourites. I’m afraid people will be dumb enough to buy it anyway.
And wireless mics are probably going to be a future expensive extra, when all the cordies start to intertwine and break.
Seriously: my crappy wireless guitar Hero 3 controller is shite, Rockstar is too bloody expensive and now Singstar is made to empty my wallet instead of making me and my friends happy… ALL party games are utter crap on PS3.
I start to wonder: why on earth did I ever sell my PS2? Oh yeah: to be able play GTA4. Thank god for that. Maybe they got a great karaoke bar in Liberty City.
Comment by Fontainebleau — Apr 16, 2008 @ 10:51 am
@38:
Aryanisms, Twist the Knife (Slowly) and My Own Worst Enemy would be cool! I’d have a go at giving Barney a run for his money!! It would also be cool if they included some Carcass - Corporeal Jigsore Quandary, Incarnate Solvent Abuse, Blood Splattered Banner or Rot ‘n’ Roll would be excellent! Wonder if there’s much of a market for grindcore/black metal Singstar?
Comment by Monkey Rimmer — Apr 16, 2008 @ 11:11 am
They MUST have been able to anticipate the questions that this announcement would raise, if not then Sony are even more stupid than even I think they are.
I ask again, CAN’T YOU GO 5 MINUTES WITHOUT HUMILIATING YOURSELVES?
I won’t ask any more questions but will make several demands if Threespeech could kindly pass my demands on to Sony.
I DEMAND:
1) The tracks on this disc are made available for download
2) The harmony update is a FREE download for existing Singstar owners.
3) As you keep trying to offend us that you supply the wireless mics if they ever emerge free to your customers, it is the least you can do.
4) You answer the other people’s questions on this thread immeadiately.
Once again, another day, another Sony debacle which seriously test the patience of it’s customers.

Comment by Ton Capone — Apr 16, 2008 @ 12:38 pm
Cool… (or rather, luke warm) another PS3 SingStar title without (a release date, or price, or) an incentive to buy (unless the SingStore shopping experience is going to go backwards like the PLAYSTATION Store has in the last 24 hours).
“Terminal 5″ progress aside, the price of the new title should be set to make it cost-effective to purchase all the tracks included on the disc in bulk rather than paying the individual download costs… however, this is assuming that the purchaser of the physical item would have wanted to download all of the tracks included anyway. If you are just buying the Blu-ray based title for one or two tracks not available to download via SingStore, then the cost of £17.99-£19.99 is likely to be a hard to justify.
The lack of wireless microphones is not a great loss as they are just more gadgets to interfere with your wireless router, cordless mouse, BlueTooth mobile telephone, cordless landline telephone, microwave oven, remote car alarm fob, and ultimately the small grey matter than may remain between your ears after all the drunken sessions of SingStar. If you’ll pardon the phrase, there is probably no “band”width left for the microphones.
Yes, the ability to “unlock” the tracks on the physical discs as free downloads would be a major step forward if all the tracks available to buy offline matched the list available to buy online, but I suspect Sony are experiencing difficulties gaining (secondary) clearance from the artists & their recording labels in the various European territories.
Additional modes of game-play available on subsequent discs should also allow the unlocking of the same feature online, but this is open to abuse from one punter who buys the disc & then distributes it to many others.
To implement a fair system, each Blu-ray title should carry a unique serial number that can be tied to one, and only one, PLAYSTATION Network Id, either by inserting the disc into a PS3 console (if the Blu-ray drive is still working in that 40Gb machine), or by registering the serial number online.
One thing is clear though… Sony need to take their time & implement a policy that will upset the least number of customers, or else this may well be the last physical SingStar release due to lack of public demand.
Oh, before I forget… I used the SingStore download facility for the first time just over a week ago. It really needs more feedback on-screen about when the actual downloading of tracks is taking place. You select the (maximum 15) tracks, then you are prompted for your PLAYSTATION Network password (that caused some grief at home as her of the doors marked ‘in’ did not have this & had spent the best part of half an hour selecting the tracks only to have to cancel & await my return… that added to the party spirit no end!), and the purchasing process works adequately. The confirmation e-mail arrived hours later, but that is a side-issue. You are then given a download screen where all the tracks are listed & you have to check corresponding boxes to indicate what you want to download. And then you wait. And then you wait some more. And then you think that it isn’t working & you log-out & come back… only to find it is still not working. Then you go off & do something less boring instead, and come back an hour later to find that the first two tracks have downloaded in the background but you have no idea how long the complete list of 15 tracks will take & whether you should leave the large black grilling-machine-dust-magnet powered-on all night, or just for the next hour. Some interaction with the standard Download XrossMediaBar function would be a welcome addition so that the files/tracks being downloaded in the background can be monitored outside of the SingStore screens. Just a thought.
I wonder if the new release will prompt an update to the SingStarGame.com site to indicate when the first PS3 title will be an offer other than “Coming Soon”…

Comment by Darkos87 — Apr 16, 2008 @ 2:48 pm
Actually, since I posted yesterday I’ve chilled out a bit.
I think what would be really good is if all songs are available on blu-ray are also available on SingStore, and all new features are available, either free, or at a reasonable price.
This would mean that SS1, SS2 and - let’s face it - all future editions of SingStar are a level playing field. This means that if my friend buys SingStar 2, and wants the Killers from SingStar 1 she can download it rather than hunt down an older version of the game. If I want The Frog Chorus to sing with the current wife in Harmony Mode then I’m prepared to pay a bit for the download, and the convenience of not changing disks.
I hope this way it means everyone has a single-disk experience that wants it, but it allows non-interent-connected PS3 owners to get new songs, provides a revenue stream from the songs and keeps SingStar in shops with new-looking packaging for the millions of people who haven’t, but will, get a new PS3 to enjoy over the coming months.
If I’ve missed anything, or if someone won’t be satisfied by this then let me know. I hope this turns out to be the case, and that people can just relax a little when posting to a board that is trying to get answers to teh questions posted (thanks for that, TS)
Comment by TheFamousKevin — Apr 16, 2008 @ 4:47 pm
I agree with all of you. I think that the songs from Vol. 2 along with a patch should be avaible for download for Vol. 1 users an vise versa.
Another thing is that Fools Garden - Lemon Tree ad Lou bega - Mambo no 5 is avaible on the vol 1. disc in some countries. The same songs should be avaible for all users in all countries. This will also make it easier for Sony. Come on SONY pull yourself together - stop making differences. I insist that we get a official press relase regarding all the questions in this thread.

Hi everyone, this is my first post ever and am I going to rant, rave and generally try to express in words, my utter disbelief at what I have just read on the Sony website. It’s a ‘f**kinnnnn liberty, that’s what it is’!!!!
I heard this rumour a few weeks ago and I am hopping mad!!
Those imbeciles at SCEE have given a press release today that they are bringing out a Singstar Vol 2 on the PS3 - why the hell do they need to do this, it really is defeating the whole object of bringing out the first isn’t it?!
It’s going to have ‘new harmony duet mode’, whoppy do!!! Perhaps they should think about putting some decent duets on the Singstar first.
They haven’t released any details about whether we can download it or whether it will be an add-on to the original disc. I have EVERY single edition of the PS2 games and am obviously a huge fan, but we were promised the very latest in technology and now we’ll be changing the disc again.
This is a huge insult to the loyal Singstar fans - talk about kick a Singstar lover when she is down! It’s been a farce from the very beginning. They have the nerve to put this press release out on the same day as releasing yet again, a poor Singstore update - I’ve never seen such a load of crap on one page. If they had’ve released this update on April Fool’s Day I would have seen the funny side - the songs are just soooooooo poor…….
We fans need decent ‘A side’ tunes, not the rubbish they are asking us to spend our money on. We need CLASSIC karaoke tunes, after all, isn’t this what it’s all about! We need tunes by Madonna, the best female solo artist of all time!! We should be seeing Abba, and I know at this point some of you younger Singstar fans will think what a load of rubbish, but Abba songs would make Sony a HUGE amount of money. Classic tunes from David Gray, James Blunt and don’t get me started on Keane…………my highest score for ‘Somewhere only we only’ on the PS2 version is over 97oo, which is a very respectable score, yet they haven’t put any of the really good tracks on from past versions.
Even so, I’m still a sucker. I’ll go out next Friday and buy the new PS2 ‘Summer Party’ disc. Now if they had have given us the opportunity to download this as a pack, Sony would have made £16 out of me because I think it is probably the best track listing yet to be released, however because I really like these songs I will have to eventually download them all again as they are drip-fed to us every fortnight and they are going to make £16 out of me as well as the purchase price for the PS2 game!!
And after all that, I still don’t know whether I’ll have to download all these marvellous, brilliant, super duper tunes on the original disc or the new one!!!

WHERE IS THE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM LONDON STUDIOS/SONY?
I am pig sick of these constant gaffs by these characters.
I call on you all to boycott all Singstar/Singstore and Sony products.
It is the only way they will listen.

Thanks for looking into this Three Speech; There are many who really appreciate getting the official word from Sony pretty quickly on many issues and its unfortunate that you have to take the brunt of the dissatisfied customers ire.
I’m of the view that not everyone who has a PS3 has it hooked up online to download extra tracks, so packs like this are welcome, but if there are updates to the main game (such as the harmony mode), they should be available to the purchasers of the original game. I hope Sony agrees!

Well,
I sent my disc back to London Studios, along with a polite letter (seriously, I was polite, as difficult as it was).
I give up. Wired mics, audio lag, “300+ songs…oh we forgot to say that includes all countries and all languages…and took us months to do…erm and they are all distinctly NOT the type of..err..songs that work in a singalong party game”
I give up. And not like they care, but at least I have explained to them why.
Idiots. Wait till the US gets hold of this game. Our polite British nudging and winking over failed promises will turn into an all out massacre when it hits the US.

I’m still of the opinion that Volume 2 isn’t a bad thing if either:
a) We can download the entire track listing plus harmony mode as a patch for Volume 1 at the same cost as the disc version
or
b) We can use the Volume 2 disc to put all the tracks on the HDD so we only have to use one disc.
So either system works (and keeps our very vocal community happier), but b) works for those without Net connections as well.
Anyway, I await to hear what Sony/London Studios has to say.

@55 and 54
Agree completely. New disks are a good thing if they sell more games and increase the community. On the other hand I don’t want to buy new disks and hope that all that agree with me can be accomodated.
@53
Chill out! If it turns out that it’s a new disk and we don’t get the features then I’m not going to lose any sleep over it, although I won’t buy it either and I’d pay for the features and songs I wanted if they were available.
