My friend is downloading it right now actually. Ups, maybe I said too much. But don’t worry, it is for that other console, wink wink nudge nudge.
Comment by Kamiboy — Apr 23, 2008 @ 11:17 am
PS3 is £299.99 and GTA IV is £49.99 = £349.98
You FAIL at maths. And spelling by the looks of things.
Also, Dual Shock 3’s aren’t out in the UK, so how would they nagically bundle one with this package?
Some people.
Comment by BaseballFury — Apr 23, 2008 @ 11:20 am
You would have thought they’d include the new rumble controller like the gt5 bundle!, and I’m hoping they put back the memory card slots like the 60gig PS3, anyway SONY ROCKS!
Comment by linton — Apr 23, 2008 @ 11:21 am
i would have liked an 80gig with DS3 and the special edition of GTAIV - mega bundle that could of been, maybe in a few months when the DS3 will be out
Comment by Paul — Apr 23, 2008 @ 11:21 am
I also FAIL at spelling, as that should say ‘magically’.
I pwned myself lolz n00000b.
Comment by BaseballFury — Apr 23, 2008 @ 11:21 am
SHOCK! if i hadn’t known about this for the last month i’d be like, yeah!

That’s the thing when you criticize someone’s spelling - your bound to mess up your reply!.
You gotta laugh though!

Another reason to celebrate being in the UK in this time of rising mortgage prices, lowering house prices, and food costs increasing several times more than the rate of inflation…
The Recommended Retail Price is €439 (euros), that converts to around £350 (GBP), and ThreeSpeech are quoting the UK street price is £319.99 (GBP).
Anybody getting the “Special Edition” in the limited edition Rockstar duffel bag with a metal safety deposit box containing a production artwork book, a soundtrack CD featuring new material from artists that is only available in this release, and an exclusive Rockstar keychain (for the safety deposit box keys)?
No? Me neither. I’m going to specifically buy another 40Gb console instead!

GTA IV is the eleventh GTA version if you include the PSP and ps2 versions, eg Vice City stories on both systems.
Can’t wait for this game - my preorder is packing at this moment, so if the post office are anything like, it might be here tomorrow.
Yay!

i thought the agreement with retailers is that they cant ship before the 28th?
Comment by Paul — Apr 23, 2008 @ 12:42 pm
@Carl
Backwards compatability? Who gives a rats backside about that anymore? I have it, but the only time I ever used it was the first few weeks after launch when there were no good third party games out, and I was still finishing GoW 2. For all I care now it could be removed in a firmware update.
Comment by John — Apr 23, 2008 @ 12:42 pm
@fp - The special edition doesn’t really appeal to me either (I already have a duffel bag!). However, if you order it from Amazon USA you also get a GTAIV car license plate! I’m going to stick it on my car and see how fast I can drive past the nearest police station. This will result in a plethora of policemen following me and after a while of this hot pursuit, they’ll probably be calling in for backup, in the form of helicopters and any other vehicles they have on hand. If I can just make it to the inevitable huge ramp next to hudson (or whatever they’re renamed it - Liberty river perhaps!) I’ll be OK!

[#23] @reakt:
Check out PS3Fanboy.com specifically the “‘GTA IV: Meant to Be Played on the PS3′ says amazon.com [Update]” post, and yes, I had spotted the “GTA IV” plate at Amazon.com, but it still doesn’t encourage me to buy the Special Edition as all the contents look like they have been made on “Blue Peter”.
This aside, if you import the title, are you sure you can connect to a European server, instead of a US (or Asian) one?
The last thing you want is to find that connections/performance of game-play are impacted.
Then again, as long as the game doesn’t use the Konami servers we’ll be OK

as long as SONY keeps on bundling the obsolete SIXAXIS controller with european consoles..
i wont buy the playstation3.
You should eventually stop f**king with EU consumers. get your act together with the MGS4 bundle:
Dualshock3, backward compability, minimum 80gig HD!

Apparently, pre-orders for the PS3 version are out-selling the 360 3 to 1… FTW!

Do you want to screw us Europeans over and over again?
The USA gets bundles like
MGS4, DS3, 80GB and BC for $499
and Europe gets bundles like
GTAIV, Sixaxis, 40GB and no BC for €440/$700?
Are you kidding?

no DUALSHOCK3 bundeled in Europe = no buy.

@ BaseballFury (12):
I think what people are complaining about is not just that this bundle is mediocre but other facts that may have escaped you, such as:
> Why isn’t the DualShock3 out in Europe already? Or at least, did no one in SCEE have a strategy to get it out in time for GTA-IV and MGS4? At this rate, it won’t see the light of day, way after LBP and Home have been released. I think people class this as ridiculous and quite rightly so.
> Why is the PS3 so damn expensive in Europe? On-line retailers are offering the X360 Premium + GTA-IV bundle at £200. That’s a staggering £120 LESS for a version of the game that will eventually have EXCLUSIVE episodic content that the PS3 will never see.
But don’t take my word for it. Have a look at the 300+ responses on EuroGamer for yourself:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article_discussion.php?article_id=134150
I think what everyone wants of SCEE, specifically, is to be fair with their pricing and stop delaying the launching of pretty much everything for the PS3 in Europe, which is what they’ve been doing so far.
“Some people”? No, just certain people.
Comment by Zed Zee — Apr 24, 2008 @ 9:58 am
@ mark (24):
I’ve got a better idea, mark. Why doesn’t SCEE just treat UK customers fairly and price the damn thing on an equal footing as it is (allegedly) on the ‘continent’?
With the EU so eager to bring the Euro to the same level as the Pound, it’s hardly worth getting it elsewhere, even with the possible tax saving one could make.
Given the choice, I’d rather buy it on-line in the UK or a local shop at a decent and fair price, than wait until I or someone I know goes to an EU country and ask them to drag one back for me or worst still, get over to France/on a plane, just to buy one and come back!
I don’t see much credence in your suggestion…

Comment by henka — Apr 25, 2008 @ 8:31 am
Off topic sorry, but I’m thinking about getting a PS3 (as opposed to some other console :-), was wondering about something:
There’s lots off stuff on PS3 reviews saying it’s best to leave the PS3 in native 720p for most games as the PS3 upscaling is not so hot / tends to be frame rate hits. This is all fine, my TV’s upscaling 720p-1080p is perfectly good.
However, if I put the PS3 in 720p mode can I make it still play blu-ray in 1080p? Or will I need to swap the output mode each time I swap gamesbluray? (That sounds like a hassle to explain to the wife!)
Anyone know how easy this is to make work?
thx
Comment by Bobfish — Apr 26, 2008 @ 11:25 am
To the man who quoted the XBOX 360 vs PS3 pricing system, I shall use amazon.co.uk to compare the two fairly -
For a start, you’d have to use the 360 Elite (HDMI out, 1080p support, bigger HDD). Add in a play and charge kit, wireless network adaptor and a HD-DVD drive
Console - £239.99
Wi Fi - £54.98
play and charge (black) - £14.98
HD-DVD drive - £41.64 (new and used)
GTA IV - £39.99
Total - £390 roughly
PS£ GTA bundle - £319.99 (RRP as not on Amazon.co.uk)
Admittedly, leaves the XBOX 360 with a larger HDD and force feedback in the controllers, but for people who quote the price difference… you’re clearly not doing your research.
My original point was to the man claiming that the PS3 and GTA IV are cheaper seperately than in the bundle, which they are clearly not.
Also, Dual Shock 3. It’s not out, we have to wait. If it’s really really that hard not to wait for them, import one! It’s roughly the same price (if not a little cheaper!). I really don’t get the issue.
As for this old chestnut about us getting stiffed on price compared to the americans, again, do some research on cost of living, local economy etc and you’ll see that as far as disposable income goes, the percentage against take home pay in the US is actually worse than ours at an average level. Factor in to this the cost of education, cost of healthcare etc and you’ll see that whilst we pay more for our unit, we actually have more money to spend on said product, therfore, the only reason it appears we are getting ‘ripped off’ by SCEE is the simple fact that SCEA are trading in a damaged economy, therefore lower their prices accordingly.
