Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has managed to hold on to the number one spot in the UK charts for a second week running, something that no other game has been able to do since February.
The latest European sales numbers at VGchartz.com show that GT5P (Blu-ray) sold 402,093 copies in its first week of release, with week two figures currently at 268,198.
These figures do not include PSN sales or the million European pre-orders the game received. Very impressive indeed although we’re not surprised as, let’s be honest, it is amazing.
@ Threespeech - what your favourite car so far in the game?
Mine would be the Audi R8 (got to love the animated rear spoiler) and the SKyline GT-R (amazing interior cockpit)

favorite car, yellow Ford GT40 for it’s pure brutal handling.
the in car views blow me away all the time and don’t hinder game-play like so many other driving sims, DiRT being the other exception.

Also of note is that even with the competition’s price drop, the PS3 is still outselling them, on a weekly basis.
On top of that The PS3 has now outsold the X360’s total sales, since launch, in France, Spain, Italy and also what is classified as “Other Europe”. It should surpass the X360’s total sales in Germany in a few months and in Scandinavia in about 6 months. The only country letting down the PS3 side is the UK where PS3 sales are about 1million units behind.
Come on UK, pull your finger out!

@ Savage - 1015581 xbox360 sold vs 1173832 PS3 sold since the UK launch…
MORE than the PS3 sales in any other EU country.
so REST OF EUROPE pull your finger out!!

@mobiletone : I can’t argue with the face that the UK certainly loves buying consoles, but the fact is that compared to Xbox 360 sales, the UK is just not performing.
At the end of 2008, I think the only 2 countries on the planet where the PS3 is not dominating will probably be those old allies, the US and UK. 2009 of course will be PS3 all the way.

you can’t say the PS3 is not doing well in the UK just because NOBODY in europe bothered to buy an xbox360 ever. the truth is we buy more consoles per head than any other country on the planet (probably) the x360 already had a 1,000,000 sales head start when the PS3 launched here on the 23rd march 07. show me another EU country where it sold so well?
in fact i bet if you looked the PS3 has probably outsold the 360 in north korea but if it’s total sales are only in the four figures.. *shrugs*
we have bought over 1,000,000 units in the UK, we love the PS3, and we have 10,000,000 PS2’s show me an EU country that can compete with them figures
that’s one playstation for every 6 members of the total population!! without even taking into account PSP or total PSX sales.
anyhoo… life’s too short to argue over this.

I’m not arguing, just exchanging points of view :o).

You’re still quoting vgchartz…? Really? How can anyone quote vgcharts’ numbers and take themselves seriously. THEY MAKE SHIT UP! Just look at their US sales data, they’re not even close to NPD’s figures. Christ…
What you CAN pay attention to is Chart-Track. You know, the guys that actually RECORD sales data and DON’T make shit up. They’ve got GT5: Prologue selling between 100-200k in the UK alone in its first week.

So the 1M pre-orders didn’t get included in the total sales?
