Sony has announced that MotorStorm is to return in the Autumn for the PlayStation 3. The world’s ‘most brutal off-road racing festival’ is coming back and boy are we happy. It’s the best-selling title on the PS3 up until now and will come with a brand new location, 16 new tracks, a new monster truck and split-screen multiplayer racing for up to four players. Click here to take a read of the IGN story and also to view the video in high res.

Here’s the official press release.
MotorStorm™ returns this autumn on PLAYSTATION®3: Prepare for the next instalment of the world’s most brutal off-road racing festival
o A brand new location: experience the grandeur, diversity and unpredictability of a remote Pacific island
o 16 new diverse multi-route tracks hosting MotorStorm’s unique mixture of vehicles
o The aggressive monster truck now joins your garage
o Split-Screen Multiplayer racing – compete with up to four buddies on the same screen
It’s the best selling PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) title to date and now, it’s time to take to the starting grid again as the MotorStorm™ festival heads to the tropics.
The first MotorStorm wowed critics and gamers alike with its heady formula of brutal, unpredictable off-road racing, festival vibes and stunning Monument Valley desert scenery. This new outing takes you to a solitary tropical paradise in the Pacific Ocean, ready for a whole new take on no-holds-barred racing action through thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes.
Not just pretty backdrops to the action, these environments take centre stage in challenging players with everything in Mother Nature’s arsenal. Thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools all test the drivers to their limits and beyond.
Using the power of PLAYSTATION®Network, 16 players can race head-to-head online and, for the first time in the series, racers can hit the gas in four-player split-screen mode.
All of the vehicle classes from the first MotorStorm are here again: ATVs, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers and Big Rigs – as well as the newly arrived monster trucks that climb, sprint and roll over any other vehicle in their way.
Delivered to you on Blu-ray Disc, expect a rich festival of off road racing, along with a host of game modes and rewards. It’s brutal, dangerous, relentless, and unpredictable and more than a game - MotorStorm is way of life so stay tuned, the festival is back this autumn and promises to be larger than ever before.

nice. Shame I saw it on playstation blog 15mins ago.

WAS THAT REALTIME?
Everyone on Neogaf is saying it’s CG. If it’s another CG trailer after the uproar around the first game’s trailer…. then EPIC FAIL

I wish and hope they are in game graphics. Hope the AL is like the trailer.
Comment by Elliot — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:13 pm
This just sounds like Desert to Desert Island with Jungle and not really anything new.
Pretty much the same vehicles as before, and if the vehicles don’t have much better physics and dynamics than the first game, you will have to wonder what they will have been working on all this time.
Lets just hope it’s not just copy from one location dump in another and up the graphics. I just hope there is a little more depth and customisation to the game as well as much better tracks.
As for the CGI Trailer, why did they bother delaying it, because it was pretty much a waste of time.
Comment by Capeview — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:14 pm
lets hope it makes it to the PSN this week in 1080p
Comment by Rosco — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:14 pm
Worthless. It was cg.
Comment by Enedok — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:16 pm

@ All - Please note people that this story is a sticky and there are other new stories coming through underneath (like the one I just posted with new GT5P stills - ouch!!)
Comment by Three Speech — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:31 pm
Man Pendulum really do f***ing pwn! I was hoping for Blood Sugar or Granite but Tarantula is a good choice.
Like everyone else though, I think a CG trailer is a complete waste of time. I like the idea of really interactive environments though, like the falling tower.
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:36 pm
nice teaser. Looks like it will be a great game. Cant wait for gameplay.
roll on Autumn!
Comment by Bob — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:39 pm
Looks fricking sweet. GT5 Prologue + Wipeout HD + Motorstorm 2 = racing perfection in 2008.
Comment by uber1337 — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:52 pm
pre-rendered CGI videos really irritate me, they say nothing about what the game will be like.
Comment by Ali — Mar 12, 2008 @ 6:55 pm
A 5 day count down for a video of cut scenes from a game.
The in game will be nothing like this video trust me on that.
What an absolute waste of time.
Not that I even cared that much anyhoo.

CG Trailer was what I was expecting. Nice to see there keeping the same style as Motorstorm 1 though. I was worried with a small minority of people complaining about the sound track, that the music would go more pop. Glad to see they are not!
Comment by Eararaldor — Mar 12, 2008 @ 7:37 pm
Oh to those complaining that its a CG trailer…. Have we seen any real footage of Gears of War 2? No the idea of these trailers is to start the hype . I’m sure we will see in game footage in the coming months.
Splitscreen Motorstorm ….*Drools*

Cooool!
Comment by Nanoo — Mar 12, 2008 @ 7:55 pm
CG here, but then Evos set the first trailer for MotorStorm (in CG too) as “target footage”, a standard to try and reach, and they got pretty damned close. So I wouldn’t put in-game graphics down right away.
Comment by Youlikeyams — Mar 12, 2008 @ 8:00 pm
GAAAAAAAAp/ JAAAAAAAWN..

Comment by Roger — Mar 12, 2008 @ 8:27 pm
I don’t see why everyone’s complaining about this being CG. The first trailer for the first game was, and the final game was pretty close. Same with the original KZ2 trailer and the later in-game footage.
If this is ‘target footage’, then going on previous examples, there’s no reason to think the final game won’t look just as good.
Comment by Paranoimia — Mar 12, 2008 @ 8:39 pm
To all how are shouting CG, look again, they are using ingame graphic to run the tailer, dambass!

That was CG and why is that a bad thing? You guys do know what a target render is right? Its a cg video of what they are going for. Thats what the original motorstorm trailer was. When that trailer aired the game was still in its alpha stages. The cars where all blocks.
Comment by Chris — Mar 12, 2008 @ 9:08 pm
will you be able to do splitscreen online?
Comment by stew122 — Mar 12, 2008 @ 9:25 pm
[...] Yeah, it’s CG, but it sets the mood well. Sony and Evolution Studios’ sequel to the impressive MotorStorm returns this autumn with MotorStorm 2. The sequel will, apparently, feature the following: [...]

gaming online is great, but its loads of fun to race against real friends. Can you play split-screen and online?

Apart from that, it’s all goood!

looks just stunning. the guys at evolution are gods. motorstorm is one of my favourite titles ever and this one looks like it’s gonna be even better.
if they can match those CG graphics for the final game it’s gonna be one of the best looking games ever made but even if not it’ll still look amazing. can’t wait!! please no delays though!!

A five day or whatever countdown for a trailer that was already on gametrailers 2 days ago?
Talk about a big let-down.
Comment by Rodge — Mar 13, 2008 @ 8:33 am
It looks absolutely awesome! I just hope that in this instalment we don’t have the crashes in slow-motion (looks good at first, but quickly gets annoying!)
Comment by reakt — Mar 13, 2008 @ 9:21 am
@39
If you didn’t like the first one there probably won’t be much for you in this one. It will be very similar (I hope!) because the first one was very popular. No one would expect everyone to like it but I doubt they will aim this game at anyone who didn’t like the first.
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 13, 2008 @ 9:53 am
Why do studios “paper-launch” games like this, with target CG footage? It just sets a rod for their own back. Internet people will overanalyse the footage and when the game isn’t exactly as the trailer they’ll slate it. Look at how much stick Killzone’s taken. Just press-release the features and maybe screenshot the current development build. Don’t release these bloody videos!
Comment by katamari-ball — Mar 13, 2008 @ 10:37 am

Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:26 pm
I guess its becasue it’s a first party game. That’s pretty sucky tbh
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:30 pm
I see I was censored for my opinions about how rubbish the Store update was this week. Really, you can silence me here, but not on other forums; and you can’t change the fact that the community is generally getting very angry about the poor level of content on the store.

Shame they don’t make WRC anymore! This Motorstorm is absolute CRAP!!! Flatout on PS2 was even better!!

The hype has begun already, sigh.
How many years until this is released?
Comment by Ton Capone — Mar 14, 2008 @ 3:54 am
Ton Capone!!
whats your problem? the first game looked just as good as the early vids that we all watched.
i have the first game and it is one of the best looking games out.
the problem with the original was that there was not enough content.
if the list of features on this are true, which they most likly are, then this game will be monumental!
Comment by manley — Mar 14, 2008 @ 11:12 am
Ok you can unsticky this now. Motorstorm was all well and good but its starting to feel like one of those “made-at-launch” franchises that are only ever OK in the long-term. Reminds me a lot of Smugglers Run or Twisted Metal. OK Launch titles that got worse and worse.
Comment by katamari-ball — Mar 14, 2008 @ 1:40 pm
katamari-ball
are you crazy?? twisted metal was, and is one of the best games ever, and its not just me that thinks that if you check any review of twisted metal and twisted metal black and they will say the same.
i agree with you on smuglers run, that was crap.
but remeber that motorstorm is the best selling game on the ps3 which speeks in volumes if you ask me.
online the game was fantastic but it lacked a serious amount of content.
Comment by manley — Mar 14, 2008 @ 3:43 pm
@64 To be honest I think its one of the best selling game on the PS3 as it was a launch title and there weren’t that many games to begin with. I can see it being eclipsed very shortly by other games. I just don’t feel that Motorstorm 2 should be getting the prominence it is.
Comment by katamari-ball — Mar 14, 2008 @ 4:22 pm
katamari-ball
so do you retract your twisted metal statment?
obviously you make a good point, when motorstorm was released i dont think there was anything else in the genre at all, so that would make sence.
however if you switch it on right now and play online, you will see that the servers are still busy nearly a year later, and you cant say that about many other titles.
im not saying that it is a top 50 game, but online was truely superb, not just from a racing point, but from the fact that there is absolutly no lag and good support, and compared to other games like pro evo 8 which is appalling online you have to give credit where credit is due.
but you must know by now that all exclusive titles are hyped to the max!
Comment by manley — Mar 14, 2008 @ 4:55 pm
Motorstorm2 will be great. I loved the crazy racing of the first one. With all the knowledge they’ll have gained since, the graphical and technical polish should be fine indeed. (finger crossed here folks). However, one area I hope they fix is the AI so that it’s trying harder to win the race as the difficulty gets higher, rather than trying harder to stop me winning, which is shite. I started getting narked in races where the competition would gun for me, rather than make for the finish line. That’s not racing.
Also, the online part needs major overhaul. Aaannd, I really don’t mind if the tracks and vehicles are loaded onto the HDD if it means a vastly improved loading time. In fact, a minor improvement in loading times would be okay for me. Anything to get into the action quicker. I’m thinking that perhaps it should be optional? But then the online might be mucked up if everyone is loaded and ready but waiting for MrX to load his bits. Mmm! Anyway, there was lots of room for improvement, and I’m hoping to see it all arrive nicely and …. On time? Single worldwide release? No having to patch immediately due to rushing to market before completing the testing?
Oh god, here we go, sorry, more thoughts popping into my head. How about a spector mode? I might possibly have some good buddies round for a few jars, and while we’re dribbling and talking crap, might want some visuals. Spectator mode would connect to a race, and have gourmet camera pans that follow the racing action, kinda like the trailer. It would be like whacking on Formula1 racing, but vastly more entertaining. Or particularly good races would be saved as race replay data, which could be uploaded to your PS3, which in turn would replay it. Mmm! Anyway, whatever….
Oh my, look at the time. I can hear a Friday beer calling. Have a great weekend peeps.
