It’s rumored to be released with an official PS3 bluetooth headset.

Most of these screens are like 9 months old. Don’t think it’s a good idea to mix the new with old like that.

“..will be available on Blu-ray Disc and as a download from PLAYSTATION Network.”
oh dear grud no!! not again.
get your pre-orders booked in stores now -heh- to be honest i doubt i’ll ever buy a game from the store that i can still get as a hardcopy. i mean, it has zero resale value, is not portable around to friends houses/systems to play on and there is no tactile pleasure from holding a copy of a game you’ve been waiting on for ages.
sure, keep the store for map packs and downloadable extras for use in the game, but what do we do when our hard drives are full and we need to make room for the latest game that needs to be downloaded from the PSN too? it’s not like we can save the old games to an external drive to make space, nope, you have to delete it, throw your money down the drain, adios.
better make this post relevant i guess;
SOCOM - WHOOHAA!
Comment by mobiletone — Mar 31, 2008 @ 7:56 pm
To be fair mobiletone, you can re-download any purchase up to five times in case of machine/drive failure or whatever so if you did run out of space you could upgrade your hard disk (which the PS3 manual tells you how to do and doesn’t void the warranty) and then re-download your purchases. A pain, yes, but at least its not money wasted.
Personally I am just glad I stuck a 120Gb drive in there on day 1. I only have 60Gb left now so with my original drive, I’d be out of space already!

From these screens I get the feeling that this will do what denied ops should have!

@ ThreeSpeech:
Could we have some honesty please and get you to do a survey of blog-participating PS3 owners, asking them how much HDD space they’ve got left on their machines?
I’m curious, because I’m sure they’re getting close to running out (like TheShirts, above) and it shows the wholly inadequate sizes that Sony is providing with their machines.
I personally can’t see myself purchasing a machine, as this is one of my three criteria that needs to be met first.
Comment by Zed Zee — Apr 1, 2008 @ 9:15 am
Zed Zee, don’t let the drive space put you off. You can swap the drive for any compatible 5200RPM SATA laptop drive and you can pick up a 120Gb one for less than £40 (or 250Gb that storage for £70)
I agree they should provide bigger drives, especially considering that with their buying power they could probably supply 120Gb drives for about £10 extra on the price of the console, but I wouldn’t let it stop you buying the console. In all other respects it’s very good indeed.
Comment by TheShirts — Apr 1, 2008 @ 9:22 am
Sony are just “proving” that digital downloads are not the way to go, by offering games in 2 formats and making the disk-based one a better deal. Oh and I still have like 30Gb left on my 60 gig PS3, and I’ve still got all the arcade games/demos/videos I downloaded.
Comment by Geoff — Apr 1, 2008 @ 9:54 am
Looks good, may have to give it a go.
But will the Blu-Ray version require a humungous install too? I’m currently eyeing a 250Gb replacement drive for my 60Gb unit, as it’s rapidly filling up with save files and game installs.
Still not happy with the 6Gb install (plus update)from the GT5P disc, might as well have downloaded it from the store and not bothered with all the Play.com pre-order nonsense. That said, had my first online races last night and had great fun. Very, very messy but I do like the fact you get in-game credit for online success.
Struggling to keep my eyes open at work today though. Obviously can’t do the staying up into the wee hours and getting up for work thing anymore…
Comment by Dan — Apr 1, 2008 @ 10:16 am
190GB left on mine. If you’re going to make the most of everything the PS3 has to offer (movies, music, games); and you don’t want to have a PC always switched on to stream the content to your PS3 - then you need to upgrade the HDD. At least Sony make it easy for us by using standardised disks and making a removable HDD caddy.
Some people are asking why Sony don’t offer the PS3 with a bigger HDD. What if Sony were to offer custom builds, like Apple do for Macs? I.e. you choose your HDD configuration (from a list of different sizes) before you buy and the PS3 is made to order.
Comment by reakt — Apr 1, 2008 @ 10:20 am
@ANYONE
i have recently bought a 260gig HDD for my ps3, is there any way i can transfere my data from the old 60gig to the new one, or is it protected?
i dont want to have to download it all again.

@ TheShirts:
Yes, but not everyone is tech savvy as us on here. If there’s no prediction capabilities in the Sony operating system for PS3, some people might keep on going until they get an error message saying “No space left…” or something like that!
Upgrading is not stopping me from buying a PS3. However, other Sony blunders are and I refuse to ‘give in’ to their marketing strategy and stiffing of UK customers on price, inept controller and lack of backwards compatibility.
I configure SAN arrays for breakfast, so no, that’s not what’s “put[ting] me off”.

Did I miss a release date there?
I want this too. Just get it out already. LOL

I am i the only person who thinks them screens look bad..
I know graphics aren’t everyhing, but they’re diabolical.
Resitance looked better than that a year ago.
Comment by libertine07 — Apr 1, 2008 @ 2:15 pm
Excuse me, but what’s the point of releasing 2GB games on a Blu-ray? A DVD could store these games and still leave room for extras, and would surely cost less to produce?
Also, I don’t get the economics that allows Sony to charge over half price for games that are less than a quarter the size of a full price game.
Comment by HappySpaceInvader — Apr 1, 2008 @ 2:18 pm
@HappySpaceInvader
How do you measure the size of a game?
Comment by uber1337 — Apr 1, 2008 @ 2:52 pm
SOCOM sounds good, but like other, I hope the eye candy is improved. It’ll be coming out real close to the new Killzone and Resistance, so it had better be able to full it’s boots.
I have about 20Gb left on my 60Gb, and am wondering what to do about it. I have an external HDD for my lappie, but it’s NTFS so I can’t backup my existing PS3 HDD to it while I swapout the PS3 drives. I can’t reformat the external cos where to I put the existing data. Quite frankly, it’s all pants. Does anyone know of a program that can change formats of a drive without reformatting? I’ve tried PartitionMagic, but because it’s external, it has a problem. Anyway… I’ve meandered off topic.

Sorry about the poor spelling up there on my last post. Fingers not keeping up with brain.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Apr 1, 2008 @ 3:45 pm
Here’s hoping they don’t screw it up like they did for SOCOM 3 (and, to an extent, SOCOM 2…)
- Zipper failed to listen to the SOCOMers, and went off in a direction nobody wanted (32 players is too many and unbalances the game; S3 maps too big; vehicles were bollocks)
- S2 & S3 in Europe did not have extra downloadable content (e.g. maps, Europe not deemed worthy- thanks, SCEE)
- Worldwide gameplay is the biggest farce in online gaming and does not create ‘fun’ or ’sociable’ communities. Regional lobbies are a must and should be the main focus…
I hope Slant 6 do this justice, but they REALLY shouldn’t worry about 32 player gameplay… 16 players made for nice, tight matches with solid games and not too much hanging around, and the social aspect (e.g. talking to other players in the dead zone) was JUST RIGHT. 32 players… well, it got very boring VERY quickly and nearly killed the series.
KEEP IT TIGHT! And PLEASE don’t screw around with the maps too much…

graphics on this thing suck, i’ve seen similar graphics when i played wolfenstien 3-d years ago. this isn’t all that impressive hopefully the clan/ladder system will help make up for the poor graphics. if you want to impress with games these days you need to make it appealing to the eyes, and this game just didn’t come through. it may be alright but it’s not really grabbing any attention from me.
Comment by CHASE — Apr 1, 2008 @ 5:28 pm
these companies aren’t really stretching the legs of the ps3. they’ve got this amazing system willing to do all these great things and they put something like this out. they have customers around the world buying really expensive HD teles and they have to look at this eyesore. it’s not fair to the people that are keeping your system alive.
sorry wanted to rant some more

Wow, another war FPS. I am all looking forward to MGS4 and COD4 was awesome, but why do consoles have to become saturated with very similar warfair games. Its like there is a whole industry built up around not overly original content. How about we push the limits of what the PS3 can do an not just release another war game.
Comment by Topher08 — Apr 1, 2008 @ 8:15 pm
sounds intense… this is SOCOM: Confrontation right? You just played with the name to make the title? Or did they change the title to Control the Confrontation?
I might just wait for the Official SOCOM 4… the one with single player and multiplayer, just because I usually get in to the game through single player first before I go online and get owned and discouraged
Comment by 2Perfect — Apr 2, 2008 @ 2:57 am
I don’t get it, why people are bashing its graphics. The game is a multiplayer game. 32 player multiplayer. I guess for that scale its pretty good looking. I have played Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. Its not as impressive looking as the singleplayer campaign.

looks fantastic, thought that was a real marine in iraq, cool!
Comment by andy — Apr 2, 2008 @ 7:13 am
I don’t care what the graphics are like for this, I’m missing the good old days of conflict global storm on the PS2, that game was perfect. They should just upgrade that to PS3.
Comment by cenTripEtAl — Apr 2, 2008 @ 11:00 am
its an online game with 32+ players, now look at a game with 32players on the xbox360 and you will notice it looks much much worse then this…
Comment by mark — Apr 2, 2008 @ 11:14 am
this games looks delicious! If it has great action, and tactical gameplay as well, then this is launch day must.
Comment by Andronix — Apr 2, 2008 @ 11:36 am
I know graphics dont make a good game but to say they look “delicious” or “fantastic” is just plain lying.
And the fact its a multiplayer game is no excuse; COD 4, resitance, UT3 all look better than this..
Comment by libertine07 — Apr 2, 2008 @ 2:09 pm
hmmm now that you mention it - the people look like cartoon characters. Look carefully at the faces - lacking in detail I think.
