Any idea when the store update and thus, the downloadable version of this, will be live?
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:03 pm
I’ve pre-ordered this!
Yeah, I’m excited
Comment by Dan — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:03 pm
My mate got his today after ordering last week. Mine hasn’t even been dispatched yet and i ordered it 2 months ago.
Not Happy.
Do Not pre order from amazon.co.uk - they are useless.
Comment by I.AM.IRON.MAN — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:04 pm
I preordered in feb, but a quick look on Amazon and it seems I won’t be getting mine until first week of April
Still got plenty to do on Skate and Burnout so not too bothered.

PSN version. WHEN?
Comment by TTP — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:06 pm
Got an email from Play.com last night to say mine has been posted. Now I just have to wait. Think we need to get some ThreeSpeech racing sorted once everyone’s up and running.
Comment by Dan — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:08 pm
I pre-ordered my copy online with GAME along with God of War: CoO and both arrived this morning via recorded delivery. Have an assignment to write today otherwise I would be playing it right
Comment by Ravenblade86 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:09 pm
The Wife called me earlier to say it has arrived so I’ve taken a half day from work - leave at 12h30. I love you play.com.
I just read that it requires a 6GB mandatory install. If true this is awful news. For a start, I only have 3GB left and will have to delete stuff I don’t want to lose. I mean come on, if you own a 20GB this is 30% of your drive space. If you own DMC4 too you’ve used up 50%! That’s just lousy Sony.
Comment by DelSource — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:14 pm
Pre ordered mine from HMV.com
Had an email yesterday morning saying it had been dispatched! I hope its there for when I get back from work…failing that, tommorow morning will do I guess.
Comment by elephant.stone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:15 pm
waiting for my order to arrive, post came today – no game… maybe tomorrow?
Comment by James — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:16 pm
Oh, and I’ll say my usual “Did I hear you say tournerment?” Mr Three Speech?!?
Comment by elephant.stone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:18 pm
brmmmm, brmmmmmm, squeeeeeeeeeeeek thump. PSN for me, keep it green
Comment by MrJimmy — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:19 pm
Ordered mine on Tuesday, dispatched yesterday and arrived today! Shopnet.com. GET IN!
Comment by Hartlepudlian — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:22 pm
so when’s it coming to the PSN? I’d read it was supposed to beat the BD copy by 24 hours, so that’s a crock if people have already received their BD copies.
No sign of today’s PSN updates either yet, so I’ll jnust have to keep my fingers crossed that it’s going to be there later today for me to download but knowing my luck it’ll take 3 days to download anyway cos everyone and his granny will be downloading it too.
Comment by vibe666 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:26 pm
@DelSource. It really wouldn’t suprise me if the required install is around 6GB, given that the cars push around 200,000 polygons each, that’d be alot of data to load. Loading off of the disc would take to long, so I’d rather that it be installed to HDD.
I’ll be downloading from PSN, if I can’t grab a copy on my way home tomorrow.
Comment by The-Unknown — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:29 pm
iv pre ordered mine months ago but i cant wait another day when it come to ps store im going to be downloading it all i can say is cant wait and bring on the races
Comment by headcasephil — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:32 pm
well i hade the disc in my ps3 for 35min now and still havent gotten to the title screen damn install and update take so darn long ^^ i wanna play noooow!!
Comment by mikkelito — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:35 pm
is it true that the top gear track will be included?
Comment by Dan — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:37 pm
My Game order arrived today, but I can’t get the bloody update to download and I’m swiftly losing my temper with it.
Comment by Philip — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:41 pm
I’m sure I read it somewhere about the Top gear track being on the BD version
Comment by Theother Dan — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:42 pm
@15 - It will be out today on PSN and disk tomorrow but online shops get their copies early to allow time to post the disks out for arrival on release day. A lot of them just post them as soon as they receive them which means often you get them a day early. The official release dates are today and tomorrow though
@18 - No, the Top Gear test track is only in the full GT5 but prologue will have some Top Gear TV content to watch
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:42 pm
amazon sucks, still not dispatched despite a 27th in the post promise.
*sulks*
Comment by mobiletone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:47 pm
I still have to complete the 6 six games that are laying around in my living room at the moment… I think I’ll wait some more before picking up this one.
(I’m also still playing GT4 :p)
Comment by Niels R. — Mar 27, 2008 @ 1:57 pm
Will hopefully pick this up over the weekend along with a PSP and God Of War.
The 6Gb install sounds a bit severe! How come PS3 has to have installs whereas 360 doesn’t? Is there something PS3 specific? Just curious… so please no flaming / fanboyism?
Comment by Monkey Rimmer — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:00 pm
Got the email from GAME last night saying it had been dispatched so so hping it will be there when I get home.
@ DelSource: If you’re really struggling for space and don’t want to lose anything you might want to look into getting a new HDD (either to put in it or a USB jobby to attach to it). I agree I would rather have faster loading times than more HDD space (GT4s loading times were frustrating enough!)
Comment by Stebo — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:00 pm
Pre-ordered mine from Play and it still says it’s not despatched yet. I guess they have a big backlog to get through if there were over a million pre-orders…..
Still, hurry up will you!!!!
Comment by Robothamster — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:05 pm
UPDATE to 27…
Just checked and it’s now at the packing stage…fingers crossed it’ll be delivered tomorrow, or saturday at the latest!!

Went for Everybody’s Golf instead, still waiting for Gameplay to dispatch it though, I’ll be very annoyed if it doesn’t arrive tomorrow. Anybody else getting EG? Two decent PS3 exclusives in one week, whatever next!
Comment by uber1337 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:11 pm
Ive beta tested this game, and i can tell those who havent played it, your gonna be blown away! Ive still got my beta copy of this game but i have to buy the retail version for all the extra cars. btw jus placed my order on amazon!
Comment by Farhan — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:15 pm
Yeah I’ll preorder from play.com next time. Amazon does suck
I want this game now!!
Comment by Geoff — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:21 pm
For pre-orders I highly recommend shopto.net
Good prices and they have always delivered a day early for me!
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:24 pm
Picking this up in store tomorrow, looks great and can’t wait. I’ve always enjoyed the GT series, so this prologue should sate until the full GT5 is released in 09!
Comment by MrGilder — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:27 pm
Is it available to download from the PS store yet? i tried this morning but it wasnt there!
Comment by nicknick — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:31 pm
Meh.
Sure it looks impressive, but it’s less than half a game and is just a way to milk money out of the GT buying crowd.
I’ll just wait for the final GT5… I expect it in about 2 years, judging by GT5P.
Comment by doughnut — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:33 pm
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GT5 £44.99 FROM GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT THE SMEG!!!! I’m never going to game ever again.
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
@Meh
It may seem like half a game, but compared to most, its gott plenty of content. Also , its half the price. So half the price for half a game is good in my book. Also saves waiting at least a year to get the other half.
Online FTW!!
Comment by Deano — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
I havent pre ordered, ill just pick it up over the weekend. For a game that looks so amazing, it’s infuriating that they dont seem to put any effort at all into the audio.
I’ve watched a few new videos and as great as it looks, the cars sound NOTHING like they would in real life. Lets hope that’s whats taking so long for GT5….
Comment by dan clarke — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
Arrived earlier, shame about the install; even more shame about the update that doesn’t download and the new update tomorrow that will erase event data :s.
Still, it’s awesome
Comment by Estel — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
Got mine today and am looking forward to playing this tonight. I had the jap one previosuly and the game is truly stunning!! Cant wait for some online racing too.
Comment by Carl Busby — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
I’m about to cancel my amazon pre-order - i ordered 60 days ago and still no dispatch! what ever happened to first come first served?
I think i’ll download tonight instead.
note to self: NEVER PRE-ORDER FROM AMAZON!
Comment by I.AM.IRON.MAN — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:41 pm
@E-Role. I’m ninty-nine percent sure that you’ve got Gran Turismo 5:Prologue and the full Gran Turismo 5 titles mixed up. GT5:Prologue is listed at £20 on game.co.uk
Comment by The-Unknown — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:43 pm
isn’t this game meant to be coming out on the psn today or have i made a mistake?
Comment by manley — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:45 pm
re manley
i thought this too but no-one seems to have downloaded it yet and it wasnt on psn when i checked this morning. makes a mockery of having it a day early on PSN if it isnt going to be there!
Comment by nicknick — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:52 pm
disappointment today always got my pre orders day early from play.com they have never let me down until today gt5 not come today o well maybe tommorow !!!
Comment by gaz — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:53 pm
I preordered mine from GAME.co.uk last week, and I received it today. One of my mates ordered his from Play.com and hasnt got it yet. =P
I think the game’s brilliant! And that’s saying something when I’ve only got an Integra, Daihatsu and Evo IX in my Garage. I can’t wait until I earn the 2,000,000 Cr needed for the F2007. The handling is great, and it looks awesome.
Only problem that I have with it atm is that the Update which I need to download to play online is not downloading… Servers must be overloaded or something…
Comment by CarBoyCam — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:58 pm
Yeh its true it has a 6gig install off the blu-ray but I’m thinking thats a case off it being designed as downloaded game, so instead of changing things about you just have the download on a disk. And yes the update that is up at the minute doesn’t work, gets an error about half way through…hope they fix that quickly
Comment by Ravenblade86 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 2:59 pm
re nicknick
has there been an update at all or is pain still the last thiing?
if they have updated it and it is not there then we can forget about it!
Comment by manley — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:00 pm
The local Blockbuster broke the street date so I got my copy yesterday
Booting the game was a bit of a anticlimax. First it has to install, then download a update which failed and then download it again.
But when the fame finally got going… boy it’s good!
Comment by Erik Mejer Hansen — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:01 pm
“fame” = “game” in my last post
Comment by Erik Mejer Hansen — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:04 pm

pain was still the last thing at 8 this morning, it had better be there when i get home or there will be trouble grrrr.
Comment by nicknick — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:05 pm
@ nicknick - I feel you on that. I was gonna pre-order the disk but thought I’d go for the more expensive download to be certain of having it asap. Needless to say, all these people getting their disk copies today has peed on my bonfire somewhat
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:09 pm
Last weeks update was at 6pm GMT or around that time I think…so this weeks PSN update might be at that time aswell
Comment by Ravenblade86 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:09 pm
Argh. !
Play emailed me to say “Card declined!”
I’d forgotten to tell them my new card details.
Oh fek, peoples!
Not the status has changed to processing, then packing (here we go!), and sadly back to processing.
I’m not holding much hope about getting it on time now.
My weekend has been ruined. I can tell. Oh well, back to Warhawk it is. God I love that game. Sniff, sniff, just as well I suppose!
Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:13 pm
How much cheaper is the psn to bluray?
Comment by Wolfman — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:15 pm

I’ll let you know what they say.
Comment by I.AM.IRON.MAN — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:18 pm
so what do you learn? pay the extra 5 quid to buy in a shop. I will be at HMV at 8am tomorrow morning when the doors open
Comment by John — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:24 pm
WOOOO HOOOO! In the moments between my last comment and this, Play has posted it. So I’ll see it maybe on Saturday?
Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:25 pm
if it does update at 6pm those of us numptys who put our eggs in the online basket might get it a massive 6hrs before it hits the shops (some will open at midnight, plus 24hr supermarkets etc) and 10hrs after most who ordered it on line, and by all accounts will pay more for the priveledge. feeling pretty glum right now….
Comment by nicknick — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:35 pm
re nicknick
not to mention that it will take about 6 hours to download with the crap bandwidth that the psn servers offer.
btw why is every body saying that it is more expensive on the psn?
how can that be?
Comment by manley — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:41 pm
Still not on PSN yet. COME ON SONY!!!!
Comment by ElasticTangent — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:42 pm
The store hasn’t been updated at all at the present time, around 16.00 (4 pm I think) in Denmark, it is promised today so as long as they don’t update the store, hope and thumbs are up

The UK PSN Store is usually updated around 5 or 6pm GMT, in time for the usual game release day that we know as Friday!
Thank you please

Comment by elephant_stone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:48 pm
@ 56 Wolfman
I belive it is going to be the same RRP (£24.99)!
LOLZ??
Comment by elephant_stone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 3:50 pm
re elephant stone
most places seem to be breaking the rrp (which is a good thing), on-line it seems to be £15-£20, and some shops are advertising it for tomorrow for £20 as well, so there seems little point in buying the online version at £5 more - which begs the question - whats the point of the online version unless sony are going to make it cheaper than in the shops by having different rrp’s. Coupled with probably not being able to download it till 6 i cant help feeling sony are pulling my pants down!
Comment by nicknick — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:04 pm
I pre-ordered from Amazon, and have an estimated delivery date of 28th-31st March. Current status is ‘dispatching soon’ - so I’ll most likely have an e-mail by the end of the day telling me that it’s been sent, and it will hopefully arrive tomorrow.
Comment by Paranoimia — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:08 pm
Dear Customer

I’ll wait and see what happems for now.
Comment by I.AM.IRON.MAN — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:09 pm
re nicknick
i agree, the only reason i decided to go with the psn version was because i assumed it would be cheaper!
it still does not make any sense, if they sell the BD to the wholesalers, who in turn mark up the price, they pass it on to the retailers who mark up as well and it ends up cheaper than me who downloads it directly from a sony server.
something is definately amiss here!
Comment by manley — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:16 pm
If Sony constantly undercut retail prices on PSN, no retailers would stock the games. Sony need to be careful what they sell on PSN and how much they sell it for, to avoid souring their relationships with retailers.
Comment by Paranoimia — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:20 pm
Besides, if you buy it on PSN, you can feel good that the developer gets more of the money they deserve, rather than the retailer.
Comment by Estel — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:24 pm
@73 - That is a very good point you make, I’d not thought of it like that
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:26 pm
re paranoimia
i see your point, but it seems to be us consumers who end up worse off. i guess the answer would be for the PSN store to make downloadable content available to retailers as well so everyone could take advantage of the fact that there are no packaging, production or transportation costs. my underlying annoyance is that sony doesnt have to pay shipping, production costs or packaging costs etc. yet if you buy the PSN version you still have to stump up full whack. It would be perfectly fair for the PSN price to reflect the fact you get no packaging and you cant sell the game on - and still be fair on retailers.
Comment by nicknick — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:31 pm
@ Paranoimia
i understand your point, but lets face it, alot of people want the disc as i do on certain movies, music etc, if sony keep selling at the same or near the same price as the retailers everybody is going to buy it from the shops, to have to the disc and to save space on the HDD, not to mention they can trade after they have finished with it.
there is no point in releasing a game on the psn at the same price as the shops as it serves no purpose.
Comment by manley — Mar 27, 2008 @ 4:33 pm
@elephant.stone
I would down-load it tonight if i was you, HMV orders come from the Channel isles . So you will not get it till Monday. 4-5 days

I got a phonecall from my dutch gameshop yesterday (26th) that I could pick up the game. Installation took about 15 min and the update took about 15 min also and I even have a glassfiber connection. So guys, be warned, if your not blessed with a lightning fast internet connections you are in for a long wait.
PS my first car was a Honda Integra
Comment by Paul — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:04 pm
for anyone having issues with the update download heres how to get it working.
When you first boot the ps3 and it requests the download say NO. Once its loaded go to NEWS and download from there. If it stops again press the PS button to reset and do the very same thing again. The download will continue from where it left off.
Comment by Deano — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:05 pm
Oh Yeah, My second car was a Suzuki Cappuccino, haha
Comment by Paul — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:06 pm
@ 43, The-unknown…
I wasn’t on the internet looking at prices, this was me walking into game and seeing the box priced at £44.99.
I told Gamestation and most of the staff decided to hop accross to go look.
So I suggest everone go Buy it online, sure there is a delay in getting it through you door but at least it doesn’t cost you the best part of 50 quid! Or even better wait untill PSN!!!
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:21 pm
my theory was wrong (@65) no game in 2nd post damn it! oh well 2 games tomorrow it is then.
Comment by deadairspace — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:34 pm
@E-Role. It sounds like it might be miss-pricing or a mix-up on their behalf, everywhere that I’ve seen prices it at around £25. But if anyone is planning to pick it up in the shops, I’d suggest somewhere like Tesco’s or Morrisons, as they always sell at few pounds cheaper than the specialist retailers.
Comment by The-Unknown — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:40 pm

Too late - pre ordered a while ago and they have taken the money and said its dispatched - plus I want the actual disc so I can trade it in in a years time against GT5

Comment by elephant_stone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:41 pm
this is weird. Yesterday received an email from play saying GT5:P had been posted. Today a 2nd email from play:
Dear Customer,
Your copy of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue was received late to our warehouse from Sony and has now been despatched.
As we have missed the release date we would like to offer you £3 off the price of Grand Theft Auto 4 coming to PlayStation 3 on April 29th.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any disappointment this may have caused and thank you for your patience and valued custom.
Kind regards,

£3 off a future purchase from them? Gosh how generous
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 5:57 pm
@89 - Saru
I’ve just literally received the same email from Play.com, after them telling me it was dispatched last night. I spoke to the missus earlier and she didn’t mention that it had arrived today so I’m assuming it’s going to come tomorrow?
Doesn’t really matter if it’s a day late as I’m probably not going to get any serious time with it until Saturday anyway, and the extra money off GTAIV will be handy too.
Seriously considering upgrading the HDD to 250GB though, if all these games are going to require such large installs.

Comment by Elliot — Mar 27, 2008 @ 6:01 pm
Play.com are out of stock. Will i still get GT5P earler if i order it off game than i would amazon??
Comment by Elliot — Mar 27, 2008 @ 6:06 pm
Buy it off PSN if time is a concern, it’s the quickest way now
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 6:07 pm
wasnt convinced about buying GTA4, i guess I will get it now.
Earlier on play, they were out of stock for gt5:p until march 31, so i wouldnt order from play just yet if amazon havent delivered.
Comment by saru — Mar 27, 2008 @ 6:09 pm
Mines ordered with amazon but no dispatch
It says something like April 3rd or something to be dispatched! WTH!
If that happens, i think we should get compensated or something. Im not happy!

its a bit late for the psn update,,, i really hope that it is just delayed cause of the massive amount of content that sony is adding today.
SONY DONT LET ME DOWN!!!! i will do things for you
to be honest im abit worried right now, i was banking on getting it on the psn,,
Comment by manley — Mar 27, 2008 @ 6:53 pm
All you people complaining about Amazon and Play… you have heard of shops right… you know real places you can go and get products the same time as you pay for them… Instead of panicking about when it will be there you can just go and pick up a copy on launch day.
Comment by John — Mar 27, 2008 @ 6:57 pm
Play gave me £3 off my ore-order of GTA. Ain’t that nice? They’d only just got over telling me that GT5p was on it’s merry way! Two very nice emails!

Comment by whoelse — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:17 pm
Wait, we have a queen as well, but the king is more “important” here. Why do I ever comment on anything. It seems that every time I do, I make an arse out of myself.
Comment by amras_telemnar — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:18 pm
When is the store gonna update..piss
Comment by KARLOS — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:18 pm
@103 John - yes that’s all very well if you work near a game stockist and have the time to get to the shops, but some of us have to work for a living, nowhere near such emporiums of fine merchandise. so we order stuff online. and if they promise a 27th dispatch it should be in the post then, not still sitting in a box in the storeroom somewhere.
plus ordering online is costing around 15-20 quid whereas shops are charging 25 quid for it. and there’s no way i’m buying it from the PSN after getting stiffed with the whole Warhawk thing.
if it’s not dispatched by Saturday morning i’m CANCELING all my amazon.co.uk pre-orders, heading into the city to buy a copy FROM AN ACTUAL SHOP because that’s the only day i can get to do so.
[/ranting and thinking bad thoughts about amazon]
Comment by mobiletone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:37 pm
Come on Sony. Retail stores are closing. You can put GT5P online now.
Comment by TTP — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:38 pm
I keep checking the PSN Store but still not updated.
@111, What do you mean stiffed by the whole warhawk thing?
Comment by Advocate — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:42 pm
@109 whoelse - no i paid for next day guaranteed delivery. :\
just re-checked my amazon account and in the last 1/2 hour i get this:-
“We are preparing these items for dispatch and this part of your order cannot be cancelled or changed.
Delivery estimate:28 Mar “
Comment by mobiletone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:42 pm
Come on Sony - PSN Release is supposed to be 27th - it’s 6.45pm and nothing up yet! I might as well just wait til tomorrow and get the disc by the time it gets put up and downloaded.
Why say you’ll release it online a day early and then wait til the end of the friggin day!!
Comment by slinky — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:43 pm
I’ve had a tenner resting on my PSN account which I’d hoped would go towards this. If it doesn’t hit tonight, my girlfriend’s blowing it all on Singstar songs! Come on Sony. Have mercy on me!!!

I think so..
Comment by E-ROLE — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:47 pm
@113 - only one user per-download, so you mates can’t have their own save games on your system when they come over and have to use yours… and you can’t take it over to play on their systems.
plus you can’t trade in a download later on. i’m sticking to hardcopies from now one.
Comment by mobiletone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:48 pm
Mine’s in the post, fingers crossed for delivery tomorrow!
Comment by cr8ck3r5 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:49 pm
You’d think that someone from Sony would give us just a little bit of information about when it’s appearing on the PSN.
I’m really getting sick and tired of the level of service Sony gives us. Everything costs more, everything takes longer to become available and we get zero support/communication from them.
Comment by Jimmy — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:51 pm
to all wanting the PSN version, just wait until tomorrow and get the disc version, you get extra video stuffs on it anyways. plus it’s gonna take you all ages to download 6gigs on overloaded internet pipes, and the online update crashes anyway.
bythe time you do all that it’ll be in the shops.
plus think how nice the box will look sitting next to all those other GT games you have.
Comment by mobiletone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 7:57 pm
BUY THE DISC. Then you can sell it a month before the full game is released………
BTW Why are Sony waiting till everyone is home before updating the PAL store? Do you WANT to crash your own servers or something?
SCEE go from calamity to calamity. Someone there needs to be taken out and shot.
Comment by Jay — Mar 27, 2008 @ 8:00 pm
- PSN version is less than 2 Gigs
- You can download those videos on GT TV
- Online update doesnt crash if you set UPnP Type to 2 in the game network settings.

I got that email from play too… trouble is standard and special editions of GTA IV are both £10 cheaper on Amazon, so their £3 isn’t much compensation!
Comment by Neil — Mar 27, 2008 @ 8:16 pm
I wouldn’t worry about the PSN, there have been times before where it hasn’t been updated before 9:30pm. I’m sure the update will be there soon.
@mobiletone
You are right, in some cases like yours you aren’t within walking distance of a shop, but most people, if they really want the game on launch day, should be capable of going before or after work, on during a lunch break. My nearest HMV opens at 8am, so it’s no problem for me.
Comment by John — Mar 27, 2008 @ 8:17 pm
has it been updated yet?
Fed up with checking
Comment by jeff masson — Mar 27, 2008 @ 8:19 pm
I am playing it now. Sick, awsome. Best game ever. The bad thing is the tuning options. Not much you can do with the car after you have bought it.
Comment by Rose — Mar 27, 2008 @ 8:24 pm
Dunno if anyone’s answered these questions, but here goes…
Last time I saw, the install’s are to save wear and tear on the disc drive, we would have drives as loud as a 360 otherwise as the machine pulls info from the disc, and we don’t want that.
As far as I am aware, the disc version of GT5P comes with a making of and behind the scenes disc to sweeten the deal.
I’ve seen it for £17.99 on Gamestation’s site. I’ll be getting mine tomorrow.
Comment by Xephon1970 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 8:41 pm

I’m in Australia nd the game has been available in stores for 24 hours! There is no excuse for not having it uploaded already. This is ridiculous Sony. And you wonder why so many people have gone with MS this gen…
Comment by dizzan — Mar 27, 2008 @ 9:49 pm
Once again a lack of communication has annoyed us all. Surely it would have been a good idea to have printed the exact time that GT5P was to be uploaded to the PSN, instead of making us all keep checking!! If all of us know that this is a messed up lauch, why cant Sony realise it too! Sort it out please, we have the best console going, but not much to back it up!! I still love my PS3 though!!
Comment by pr0d1gy1980 — Mar 27, 2008 @ 9:57 pm

Comment by Steve — Mar 27, 2008 @ 10:08 pm

We all hate them pal.
But hate is what festers because of SCEE’s total lack of communication and utter lack of consideration for it’s customers.
Comment by Ton Capone — Mar 27, 2008 @ 10:09 pm
For those still waiting for their order from Amazon.co.uk - you probably selected free postage which can mean you’ll get your order up to 4 days after the release date but if you selected first class you would pay a couple quid extra but get it the next day, special delivery even better would be guaranteed. If you already paid for delivery then i would ask for your money back if it doesn’t come when it should.
Comment by Deano — Mar 27, 2008 @ 10:11 pm
Exactly. Just tell uswhen it will be released Sony!!! It’s 2008 ffs. It’s not like you have to send out homing pigeons. A single blog post will do it.

2) Get not much content in general on the store
3) Delays, delays (eg pain)

mobiletone, don’t make assumptions like that or call people names. Personally I want the download version for convenience. I prefer not to mess around swapping disks if I can avoid it.
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 27, 2008 @ 11:56 pm
They’ll release it like 11.58pm and say “well we did promise to release it on the 27th and we did! Sony keeps its promises” - sick of waiting now, I’ve been checking all flippin day. Right royal SCEE f**k up!
As for updating the store it has to be as simple as >> add file to server >> add item to store >> click to update store, just like any other Content Management System. FFS I’ve written complete websites quicker than these monkeys….
Comment by slinky — Mar 27, 2008 @ 11:57 pm
I have it. Yeah, it’s pretty good so far.
The initial install took between 10 and 15 minutes and then I had another 20 minutes trying to download the update file; Not a nice experience to go through but I went away and did other things.
Online racing…. had a few races, I always finish last though (cos I’m rrrubish). Some races went smoothly and others didn’t. Some cars “jitter”, I’m sure the gamer isn’t putting though inputs in themselves, it the game (or network somehow). Some cars look like they’re accelorating and braking repeatedly, the effect is like the car is moving backwards and forwards slightly as it’s travelling down the road, looks weird and a bit off-putting. Maybe it’s my connection, but it’s supposed to be upto 8meg.
GT-TV…. nothing on there but the intro movie for the game, which is VERY impressive.
So far, I’d give 7 out of 10. Might go up to 8 once I’ve played it some more
Comment by Mister_G — Mar 27, 2008 @ 11:58 pm
Sony must have known that this was going to be a hotly anticipated update and they’ve shafted us without a word of explanation!
Way to go Sony. What a fucking cock up!!!

Amazon didn’t despatch my GT5:P pre-order till after 7pm so i guess its doubtful for getting it tomorrow.
SCEE showing themselves as being completely inept.
Just another regular day in PS3 land then..
Comment by Mal — Mar 27, 2008 @ 11:59 pm
Does anybody know, or can confirm, if this game is gonna be playable on more than one PS3. Warhawk is where I am going with this. Each PS3 must have it’s own version to play against each other and that goes for both the Network version and the BluRay version. Is GT5P the same? I have ordered from Play and it was posted today by the way.

I could have a real rant about the PSN but whats the point ? Its all been said before. I have been constantly disappointed by the PSN, and tonight is a shining example. “The game will be out Thur 27th on PSN” Ok fine …………….. 11pm ………where is it ? SCEA updated their store an hour ago, complete with GTAIV trailer…Well SCEE wheres Our trailer ? More to the point WHERE IS GT5:P
Whinge over ( Thank you and goodnight)
Comment by PSN Enigma137 — Mar 28, 2008 @ 12:00 am
Your probably right Slinky. I have never written a website, but i reckon i could learn how to, design one, and get it live quicker than these muppets who update our PSN store!! A simple statement telling us when the update would be happening, instead of a lame countdown that none of us know actually what its meant for, and we would have all been happy. I have had to play Flow to calm myself down, but i am still in a rage since reading all this!! haha

1.9GB isn’t exactly huge, especially given that PS3 games can take advantage of Blu-ray’s 50GB if they choose, so how do they do that?
One way Prologue reduces its footprint is by leaving cinematics on the server until you choose to download them from GT TV. You can choose to download the opening movie at any time, and when you finish Event series you’re told that you can now download the end movie from the in-game high-definition TV download page.
According to a Sony spokesperson, both movies will be included on the Blu-ray disc version of the game.

I really thought the cock ups of 2007 were behind us, but between the release date nonsense of the past few days (Killzone 2, Haze) and now the non-appearance of GT5P on the PSN, Sony aren’t really doing themselves any favours. Again.
The US PSN has been updated (no GT5P, but thanks for the UT III maps!), so what the hell is going on?
I love my PlayStation 3, but this sort of thing really hacks me off.
Comment by Xephon1970 — Mar 28, 2008 @ 12:07 am
what pisses me off the most is that there is nothing we can do,,, cause all of us will buy it the moment it is available, just like we did with the rest of the games that were promised and never arrived by the date that they gave.
i would like to make a stand by not buying any more games on the psn to prove a point,, but lets face it, the moment WO HD and HV bowling come im grabbing them.
really sites like these are our way of expressing our discontent, and yet every week nearly everybody is complaining about the weak updates or the delays. and yet in the year that the ps3 has been out nothing has changed at all.
makes me wonder why i bother even ranting.
the other week a guy said that he had enough and sold his ps3 for an xbox and i slated him for that,,,,, well let me just appologise to him, cause at the end of the day, even though MS are money grabbing @$%£^&* at least they support there live.
i would quite easily pay £30 pounds a year to stop this sort of thing from happening!
Comment by manley — Mar 28, 2008 @ 12:11 am
Yeah, found out later that the US version wasn’t scheduled for release now, but this is a bloody disappointment, 0015 here in DK and no update, well I had guessed they wouldn’t release it today as promised and wait untill tomorrow or today here in DK.
For the first time ever I think SONY sucks, and I have been a truly loyal fan ever since the PS1

I hope that by tomorrow morning the PSN version is out, and I’ve got a GT5P shaped Amazon package dropping through the door. They dispatched my copy today so here’s to hoping…

Thanks Sony, you took up whole evening with this.
Here’s a handy tip: If you’re going to issue a press release saying GT5:P is going to be available on 27th March on PSN, make sure that’s the case. If it’s not going to show, then you better make sure you tell people, rather than staying mute. It’s 6 hours after the regular update time, and I, as well as countless others, am still totally in the dark about what the problem is.
Now, do I go to bed and hope that it’s just going up a day later than you told us it was, or do I stay up so that all this waiting wasn’t in vain? Maybe if I had any clue whatsoever what’s going on, I’d be able to make that deciion easier, but as it stands, I’ve just spent a quarter of my day waiting for nothing.

im furious. i was even prepared to have my pants pulled down over the price and download GT5 from PSN for the convenience of not having to take out pro evo if i wanted to play GT, plus i would get it 24hrs early. now i just feel stupid for even contemplating that sony wouldnt cock up the release of the biggest game on ps3 so far. might not even buy it on principal now. or might go to tesco in the morning.

Comment by wow i can see the light — Mar 28, 2008 @ 2:04 am
Okay, yeah. I’ve sat up all evening waiting for this update. I basically spent the day at work brimming over with child-like GT5 Prologue joy, and came home to find the store still trying to hock copies of PA!N. Six hours later and there’s been no change, and I doubt that there’s anyone with their finger poised over the “UPDATE” button right now.
Now I feel like an idiot for trusting the release date. I should know better by now. God, how the years should have taught me to avoid getting my hopes up.
I wonder how many copies of Destruction Derby and WipEout they sold tonight? I’ll bet there’s a peak in the online sales chart that co-incides with the tinkling sound of a MILLION DREAMS BREAKING.
Ah well, I’ll get it tomorrow, I trust.
Comment by Neil — Mar 28, 2008 @ 2:24 am
3am and still no PSN update, not that i’m that bothered, i’m planning on going into town tomorrow to buy GT5P on disk, i hope its not sold out everywhere! i’ve just spent the night playing Gran Turismo HD so hopefully il be almost back on form to take on the world!

Lot of moaning going on here - anyway, got the br disk - been playing all day (took day off). It’s amazing, really, amazing, like the best GT (was that 3 or 4?) but a much better finish to the whole menu / nav plus online two player etc plus it feels fast when you drive. ACE.

The one time when we are getting something worthwhile before the U.S. and SCEE still manages to alienate and upset the continent.
Well done, SCEE. Truly.

See ThreeSpeech, you should been out with your reporters disguise on, taking pictures of the chaos, asking for comments from behind the scenes, showing us just what was happening to our beloved pre-orders. Live picture updates (for an hour or so) of trucks full to bursting with GT goodness. Sad images of the games left behind, yet to find their owners. And the occasional sardonic smile of a narked, empty handed customer, who’d like to shout and rage, but can’t cos you have a camera pointed at them.

ThreeSpeech, I think you need to try to get an explanation from Sony about this one. I wasn’t even planning to buy GT5P but a lot of people on all the forums I visit are very pissed off about it, and it does SCEE no good whatsoever to just pretend that nothing is wrong. Congrats SCEE yet again I try and show my PS3 some love and yet again I’m reminded why I hate you guys so much. Delaying your biggest release so far for a game video was dumb, but you don’t stop there ooohhh no. You just plain don’t release the game. Of course the other territories get their update as normal.
I look at my 360 and I’ve had updates throughout the week and I dare say they even managed to get the GTA4 video up on time and around the world. It really does show yours up for the pile of **** it really is.
Stop with the excuses, stop with the only update on a Thursday rubbish and provide a decent service. I currently have GTA4 pre ordered for both 360 and PS3 but I’m pretty sure I’ll cancel the PS3 order so I can pack the PS3 away and forget SCEE exists.
Now it’s time to go to the shop and see if I can pickup Prologue.

I can’t wait to go grab this game after work, my girlfriend isn’t going to see me all weekend!
If you remember the same thing happened with Warhawk, it wasn’t released on the PSN until something like 10.30am on the day of its release. Hope this information helps to calm some of your nerves!!
Comment by Kevin D — Mar 28, 2008 @ 10:25 am
Well if the idea was to drive us to retailers, it worked. I just gave up and walked to my local GameStation , who opened the doors when they saw me (even though I was 15 minutes before opening time). I traded San Andreas and Bully in and got £7.50 off this which is not bad since I just never play either since I completed them both 100%
SCEE f***ed this up majorly and I will certainly not be waiting for the download version of any future releases while there is a BD version available at the same time.
The real burn for me is that I KNOW if I had pre-ordered with ShopTo I’d have got it yesterday as a couple of my mates did! I just thought I’d prefer the convenience of a download version but Sony dry raped me again
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 28, 2008 @ 10:27 am

My bad. It’s back now. Ker-azy.
Comment by jiggles — Mar 28, 2008 @ 10:34 am
In my opinion the convenience is in the BD version. Say for example your friend has a PS3 but no GT5P, you can just take your BD round = instant gaming. You may argue that it takes time to put the disc in, but then I’d say it takes just as long to locate the download version on your XMB sifting through all your demos etc, and then fire it up. The BD version won’t take up any hard drive space (except for any updates), and if for some bizzare reason you lose the data on your hard drive you still have the disc (I know you can re-download it, but hey thats ‘inconvenient’!!).
Each to there own, either way, BD or download your getting a game that has nearly as much content as any other racer but for half the price. I don’t think you can argue with Sony for that.
Peace

I stayed awake past midnight last night, purely to see if I could purchase and start the download. It’s a shambles.
Excuse me if I’m wrong on this, I don’t know every detail on servers and sites, but wouldn’t it be quite easy to load the game onto the PSN servers, work the PSN interface to show the content and then just hit a few keys to update the PSN?
To screw this up, this badly, on one of the most highly anticipated games of 2008, is an utter disgrace.

Perhaps Three Speech could run a competition, taking suggestions for things that SCEE might be able to get right. The most complex thing suggested that SCEE can actually manage without problems is the winner.
I can’t help feeling that if it’s not too much for them, ‘breathing in *and* out’ might be the winner.

also this has come about…
” The PSN downloadable version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has stood up the legions of PS3 fans. It’s failed to show up on the PSN yesterday as expected and it possibly won’t appear until Saturday.
The 1.9GB download was set for release yesterday, but increasingly furious gamers were left refreshing their PSN Store pages late into the night, only to be disappointed by a no-show.
Worse, a Sony customer service line manager has told would-be customers that the download may not arrive until tomorrow, Saturday 29, “at the earliest”.
“The women wasn’t particularly helping in terms of why the game was delayed on PSN”, says the forum poster who contacted SCEE customer services.
Advertisement:
“However she did speak to her manager who said there should be an OFFICIAL announcement on the forums/SCEE website today. However she said that it will likely appear on the store as a seperate update tomorrow (Saturday 29th) at the earliest,” he was told.
The Blu-ray version goes on sale today for same price of £29.99 (shop around though and you’ll get it cheaper), and that version comes with all the nice high-res cutscenes not included in the download.
We’re currently chasing Sony for the official word.

Ok here’s a thought, does anyone else think Sony may ignore this weeks update and wait for next Thursday just to try and protect their b*llsh*t stance of “We can only update on a Thursday”.
It hurts me to think they’ll be that stupid, but with their previous track record I can see it being true. And if a release as big as GT5 prologue can get pushed back for such a weak reason, it doesn’t bode well for the future of the playstation store.
Comment by noboard — Mar 28, 2008 @ 11:26 am
It is a bit crap how they aint updated the store - but I wouldnt cry about it. There has no doubt been a technical error with a server, or the file transfers are putting un-froseen strain on their servers/gateway. Give them a bit of leeway, happens a lot in IT releated industry.
It would have been nice for some communication though!

Another major fuckup by SCEE. I was really looking forward to downloading the game yesterday. One day later it’s still not up, and I don’t expect it to for a while.
Had I at least known it would be delayed this much I would have ordered it. But if I order it now I won’t get it before Monday or Tuesday.
Great job, once again, SCEE.
At least make a press release explaining what went wrong and when we can expect GT5:P on PSN Store.
And people wonder why SCEE doesn’t have a blog. It’s because they fuck up so much they’d drown in complaints, rightfully.
Comment by Caliber — Mar 28, 2008 @ 11:59 am
You have to laugh, they tempted fate by asking lurkers to post and also by starting this article with: “So who has pre-ordered this? Let us know your thoughts as soon as you get it. Pretty excited about this one to say the least. Bring. It. On. ” LOL !
I logged on last night but as the store hadn’t been updated, figured I couldn’t play it properly til Saturday anyway, so I’m content to wait.
I like the idea it’ll be on my hard drive, so I don’t have to put a disc in, but I’m troubled that it’ll be cheaper elsewhere - what price laziness?

Highest profile game to date on the PS3 - and they balls it up. Not that there was much incentive to d/l in the first place. Pay more get less. Where’s the discount for the retailers cut, distribution & storage costs, packaging & media costs? Anyone STUPID enough to pay full store RRP is just playing into these companies hands. They WILL charge you what your willing to pay for it. Vote with your wallets and shop around for the cheapest deal - even if it means waiting a couple fo days.

Comment by Three Speech — Mar 28, 2008 @ 12:55 pm
‘Lestrade’ has posted on the official PS3 forums saying there “was a problem” (no shit sherlock).
Anyway - why can’t people accept that clearerly there was a problem with the loading of the new PSN, and it’s not required by Sony to *immeadiately*, outside of core business hours, to react to the sudden influx of insults being thrown at them. For 99% of the folk on here, the technical reason why the upload could not compelete would probably mean nothing to the majority anyway.
There’s no one person on here moaning, that will no longer buy GT5P because of the delay - admit it - your all still going to buy it.

The problem isn’t the delay so much as the clear lack of communication. Someone at Sony, even if it’s just the work experience boy, should have been on hand to put out some information either through ThreeSpeech or the official forums that the update would be delayed. The comments on here and other forums show that many people spent the whole night waiting for something that never came. This was SCEE’s biggest PSN release so far and they blew it.

I pre-ordered my copy from Game and arrived yesterday and it cost £19.99, so really pleased with the service - I recommend them for any future orders.
As for the game itself, played it last night and I think it’s awesome but the install took about 20 mins. Also, I tried downloading the update, straight away at first and then from the main menu several times - still no joy. I’m starting to get worried that there’s something wrong with my machine - is anyone else having similar problems?
Comment by PinkLFCfan — Mar 28, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
Just picked up a copy from game (£25 but got an extra controller for £20 which is nice). Looked on the back and it has an HDD space icon and 250k. Surly this is a bunch of pork pies as it requires an install of a few gigs.
Did DMC4 do this as well? Only specifying the game save file size when you require a major install is cheeky.
Just need to get the afternoon out the way now.

Got the game a few days back.. The local store put it in the shelf an hour after he got them (and didnt wait for the release-date).. And im not complaining ;).. He sold 7 copies in 30 minutes, and this isnt even a very big city.
Anyway, the demo is GOD.. Altrough i think u get a little too much price money, or the cars are too cheep to buy in game.
The overall experience is very good, the best ive ever played in the racing genre. Controllers are FANTASTIC, really quick and precise reaction. Grafics are top notch (exactly that nice as shown in trailers), BUT! The shadows on the car(s).. Especially on the number-plate-place on the back of the car is a bit.. hmm.. cant find the word in english. It looks like saw-tooths on some of the cars. One more negative thing is that (as far as ive completed) i just cant find anywhere to buy engine-upgrades. I really hope this will be added in the full game if its not only that i just cant find it.
Overall i think its a great game, no major things to complain about, and you get good value of ur money even through the price is high. So last word i’ll give it a 9,5/10.. cant give it a full 10 bcus of some minor gfx misses, and wont give any lower than 9,5 bcus its only a demo.. all things will prolly be fixed in full game. if ur a big fan of racing-game (like i, who has followed the GT-serie since first edition), then imo there is NO REASON not to buy this demo.

Played 7 online races.
One got disconnected. pretty impressed
Like the fact that cars who make big mistakes start blinking. at that moment they are likee a ghost car. Only problem is you don’t know when the blinking stops so if you are behind one you better pull out an evasive manoeuvre
It is particulary helpfull if you are in the front and slow down to take a corner. the cars will drive through you. If the mistake is smaller they won’t blink and they bump into you.
Like the cockpit view. It is much harder to see your speed though . But soon you get a feel at what speed you’re driving.
Like the standard and professional settings. standard makes it playable for all. Professional is an entirely different subject when your car got some power.
I had an update. don’t know if it is the spec II update have to check this at home.
It took a while but all went well. No errors.
Looking forward to unlock the QTS this evening.

“Hi, I would like to inform everybody that the european PSN Store version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has some serious issues about the terms of service\user agrement.
First of all, for playing you need to have your PSN Account connected to the network like Warhawk, yes, it means you can’t play it offline.
In other news the game can’t be shared between different accounts. It’s linked only to the PSN user that bought the game itself, while the license doesn’t inform the user about this before buying, unlike Warhawk as you can see in this picture I took: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4878/dscf0754lq6.jpg

Online is fucking terrible. Cars wobble, move back and forward rapidly, and in ten races the server has dropped me four times.
Off the disc is great, but I am so disappointed. I was so annoyed with the online experience I went out to the bank and stopped by a game shop where I saw a sign for Wii’s in stock. So I bought one, pure impulse buy. Played Wii Sports most of the day: GT5P is already on my media shelf.

I think I’d rather have spent an extra £3 and bought GT from a bricks and mortar shop on Friday, giving myself a weekend to play it.
However, I have the game now, and am readying myself for some storming lap times, and hope the online play improves once PD release the next patch/update. Laters!
