Hello to everyone,

I'm hearing both that headphones are required along with the go!cam's mic in order to use skype AND that they are not.

For those of you who have successfully used skype with only the go!cam mic and the PSP's built in speakers, did you have to change any settings in order to get it to work?

For my part, once I unplug headphones from my PSP, the Go!cam mic stops working...works fine with headphone's (regular mic-less headphones) - won't work at all when headphones are then unplugged!??

Would really like to use skype on the PSP without fumbling around to plug in headphones first.

Any help would be apprecieated.

To all those asking why Go!Cam users need headphones.

The simple answer is to avoid feedback i.e. the go!Cam Mic picking up the audio out from the PSP's internal speakers causing a potentially damaging feedback loop.

Now, can anyone tell me when the GPS unit for PSP is being released. It's been on sale in Japan for nearly 2 years. It can't take that long to localise some maps? Especially since Sony sell Sat-Navs, so they have the map data and software developed.

I'm waiting for this rather than buying a stand-alone unit.

@20: My thoughts exactly, but I wasn't sure it the jack had an audio-in connecter, like some mobile phone do. And I last I checked, the data plug didn't have enough connectors for an audio, but I could be wrong, or the connectors could alter their behaviour when special apps/games are started.

Too bad the PSP doesn't have bluetooth -- that would solve this completely, and make it way more handy =)

Headphones are NOT nessasary...but if you dont want everyone to hear your convo then use them! :)

I presume you need a remote to connect a microphone due to the jack plug on the PSP being for audio out only, and the data plug (next to the jack - kinda like those seen on a Sony MD player) carries the voice data received by the microphone.

Now, the big question for me is: Do I purchase the headset for £17.99 (PLAY.COM) so I can have my psp in my pocket whilst I chat....
OR
Do I buy a Go!Cam (£30+ from heaven) and have video capabilities on Go!Messenger (and the ability to snap photos), but then have to have the PSP in range of my voice in order to chat?!

I guess the headphones are for 'private' conversations in starbucks or the like, not everyone wants to hear everyone else's conversation.

It kind of spoils the 'Let's make the other half of the conversation up' game. :-)

I'm guessing the reason for the remote usage is that the headphone socket on the PSP has only got the connectors for 'Left, Right and Ground' whereas the remote has the 'extra' connector ring for the microphone.

I've purchased the PSP-Slim remote and skype kit from play and the 3.5mm headphone jack has 4 contact points.

I'm also just guessing because I don't have another headphone / microphone unit that any other brand should work too, the connections do seem standard (3.5mm jack etc)

I just wish Play would stock the PSP camera again, I'd love to be able to buy it on-line (I hate crowds).

Please Sony, sort out your accessories line and get some stock to the retailers!!

Oh and where the heck is the GPS unit?1?!

Ok, I've found out the Go!Cam has a microphone.

I'd really like to know:
1) Why are headphones necessary when a Go!Cam is used? The PSP has speakers.

2) Can I connect a standard headset with ear phones and microphone to the PSP? Say one made by Sony Ericsson, Nokia, etc?

3) Is it really necessary to connect the headset though the PSP Remote? Can't it just be connected directly in the PSP's jack socket? I'm not interested in carrying those extra wires and the remote control.
According to this guy, I need both a Sony PSP remote control and Sony PSP Headset. But then again, he's from Sony PSP Marketing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PglZOaLrLqk

Anyone?
