Originally set for release last year, Army Of Two from EA is a two player co-op third person shooter that allows gamers to battle it out in current day war zones. Players will need to make the most of their partner, utilising unique two-man strategies and tactics in order to survive. Your partner in the game is there to support your progress through the game, thanks to the “Partner Artificial Intelligence” (PAI) system. If you would rather not have your partner controlled by the system a second player can join in on the action.
The reviews are out on Army Of Two and so far they look good GamePro gave the game 4/5, DailyGame gave 8.3/10 and LazyGamer scored Army of Two 85 / 100. Check out more reviews here. If you would rather see the game in action check out the Gametrailers preview.
Co-op is the main focus of the gameplay and is greatly complimented by the aggro system, which, even though there is a wide array of weaponry, will be a big help to you. The system is based on the level of forcefulness of your soldier, the more aggressive you are in the game the more your enemies will focus all of their attention on you. Initially this seems to be more of a problem than a bonus, but when you consider you have two players at your disposal you start to understand the benefits of this system. If all of your enemies are focused on one player the other player is free to sneak up on enemies in a battle situation. The other benefit to the aggro system is the overkill effect which happens when you maintain a constant level of aggression. This allows players to benefit from improved damage and unlimited rate of fire.
Players take on the role of two ex-army rangers and now mercenaries, Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem. The two are dispatched to troubled war zones across the globe in order to take care of any problems in place. The more involved Rios and Salem become in their mission, the more disturbing facts they learn. We don’t want to give too much away here, but they eventually learn of a conspiracy within their organisation and set out for revenge. Sounding good to us.

not bothered on this one, playing too many similar games and not esp into the 2 player idea. A demo of this might convince us all eh?

Looks good. If you can play 2 player over the net then even better?
Yes a demo would definately help tho

Already pre-ordered this from play.com, so definitely one I’ll be getting! Hopefully, it will be better than Conflict: Denied Ops (the demo at least) seemed. Graphically, it looks vastly superior at any rate. And I like the idea of using an enemy as a human shield (IGN mentioned this in a preview a while back).

What’s with the influx of third person shooters this gen? Are third person shooters the new first person shooters, or is it just that FPS controls don’t work so well on consoles? Or is it that they’ve FINALLY managed to get third person cameras that always give you nice angles - to be honest this seems likely as I think the main reason a lot of last decade’s games were FPS is because they’re the easiest to get the camera working with. And people have run out of ideas for FPSs aside from adding more gimmicks to the gameplay (see crysis, haze).

I’ve been watching this for ages, but was cautious about it given EA’s current dismal record on PS3.
However, recent gameplay footage has convinced me, and I ordered from Play.com yesterday.

Id rather have “Army of 1000″ a game where you go into battle on a massive battlefield with many online comrades. this would rock my socks. You could have different battles from time and even battles to be fought in the future.
Id buy that for a dollar, or two quid.

Can’t be as cack as Kane & Lynch, surely… but it’ll take a (playable) demo to convince me.

if this has online co-op its a buy for me this friday (everyone in work is getting it…so)
hmmm….

@E-ROLE
I’ve been after the same thing for years!
Ideal game - faithful recreation of a war scene akin to Starship Troopers when they first arrive at klendathu at night and you see thousands of troopers pouring out of the drop ships.
Multiplayer on that scale or even single player would be fantastic!

yepp, i’m getting this on Friday, been looking forward to it for a while, sounds even better now that they have given the game a good tweak. this is totally a good sit on the sofa with a mate and just blow the living bu—ry out of stuff together game.
online is 2 on 2 action from what i gather
you and a mate vs two other guys to complete tasks, capture t’flag etc.
i finally get to trade-in that awful Juiced2 for something.

Just checked my play.com account, and they claim to have posted this earlier today… so, with luck I’ll have it waiting for me when I get home from work tomorrow!

@MuggleMind - we expect to hear about its playability and fun factor from you.
I want a mini review posted through here

Does anyone know what the lead development platform was? If it’s a port from Xbox 360 to PS3, I’d be expecting disappointment. I noticed recently that another multi-platform game, Battlefield : Bad Company, only ever seems to show off their Xbox 360 version and in all honesty, that bothers me. The sooner developers learn that using the PS3 as their lead platform for multi-platform games is the way to go, the better it will be for PS3 and subsequently, Xbox 360 titles. Until then I’ll will be very wary of said multi-platform games.

@JS - in case you were wondering, game didn’t arrive yesterday (I reckon the postie is a 360 fanboy!). When it does come, I will do a review though.
