We all know how good soundtracks to previous WipEout titles have been and Sony have now announced the soundtrack to the new PSN title. The track listing looks bass-heavy and techy as ever, featuring music from Booka Shade (yes!), Kraftwerk (double yes!) and Ed Rush, Optical & Matrix (hell yes!). Not only will you get the game in 1080p at 60 frames per second, but the music has been re-mastered in Dolby™ 5.1 surround sound.
Think this one will sound as good as it looks.
Official press release follows.
Feel the beat with WipEout®HD
o Remastered soundtrack includes Kraftwerk, Booka Shade and Noisia
o Nine huge tracks from the biggest names in electronic music
o All delivered in Dolby™ 5.1 surround sound to fully complement the adrenaline-fuelled antigravity combat racing experience
When you look back at the history of gaming, there aren’t many games where the soundtrack is so good that it creates as much excitement as the gameplay itself. But the WipEout® franchise is, without doubt, one of the main exceptions to the rule with previous iterations of the games including recognised artists such as The Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin and Stanton Warriors to name but a few. With WipEout®HD, it’s going one big step further.
Not content with delivering an eye watering and crystal clear High Definition 1080p race experience running at a blistering 60 frames per second, the WipEout team has also remastered a selection of its best music tracks in Dolby™ 5.1 surround sound – meaning that with the right sound system in place, WipEout HD is the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) game to blow all of your senses away!
The digitally remastered play list is confirmed as follows:
MoveYa! & Steve Lavers: Chemical
Stanton Warriors: Tokyo
DJ Fresh: X-Project (100% Pure mix)
Ed Rush, Optical & Matrix: Frontline
Noisia: Seven Stitches
MIST: Smart Systems
Mason: Exceeder - Special mix
Booka Shade: Steady Rush
Kraftwerk: Aero Dynamik
And don’t forget that this is just one part of a classic gaming title that comes packed with a whole host of features:
Full HD visuals: 1080p graphics running at 60 frames per second: Experience adrenaline-fuelled anti-gravity combat racing for the very first time in full High Definition.
5 games modes: Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap, Zone Mode.
Online play: Up to 8-players will be able to compete against each other in a range of online races.
8 tracks: A selection of the best tracks taken from previous iterations of the franchise, meticulously crafted and fully reworked from the ground-up to showcase the processing power of PS3™.
8 teams: Feisar, Assegai, AG-Systems, Qirex, Piranha, Triakis, Goteki45 and EG-X.
A full arsenal of weapons: Choose from a wide range of weapons including missiles, rockets, mines and the brand new leech beam.
Use of the SIXAXIS™ Wireless Controller: Experience a variety of choices and depth of control unseen in any previous iteration of WipEout.
Pilot assist: Get help navigating your way around the HD circuits with the new Pilot assist feature.
Pumping soundtrack: Feel the beat with 9 fully licensed music tracks, all remixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound for an even more intense game experience.
Custom Play lists: As if that wasn’t enough, WipEout® HD also supports ‘Custom Play lists’: playback your own music using play lists created in the PS3™ XMB.
Photo mode: During any race, pause the game and select the Photo Mode option. You can choose which ship will be the focus of the camera, and adjust the camera angle, zoom level, and so on. Images are saved to your HDD.
Score Posting: Post your best lap times and race records in game (for both offline and online modes) and compare them against other WipEout Players across the globe.
WipEout HD is true next generation gaming. If you like your games to have a real edge to them – and if you think you can handle Hi-Def anti-grav racing at 600 kmh – this is the one for you.

I don’t like techno - does this support custom sound tracks? If not, why not?

Whoops! Should have read the whole article first - yes it does. Nice one.

Ed Rush & Optical are drum & bass producers, not techno. Christ these days if it doesn’t have a guitar or some wiry haired nme loser in it, it’s techno!

Aero Dynamik will work SO well in this

@BlueGene
That’s funny, I don’t like Techno, but honestly I think it’s the only kind of music that works well with Wipeout… I cant imagine Wipeout without Techno

This game is one of my favourites games ever.I’m 30 years old (yes sirs , the old men play too) and i can’t remember the first wipeout on Psone without a smile on my face, this game was fantastic and i think it made history on race games and improved great games like F-Zero .I’m waiting to play this fantastic game at 1080p and stunning graphics …
P.D.One wish …do you think some day we can watch the physics of motorstorm on Wipeout games ,Would be nice to see how the ships lose parts from their skin when crash with one platform or when smash another ships…or get dirty with dust…(thank you and sorry about my english)

Wipeout2097 was just the greatest! If this captures that feel of speed yet control, then I’ll be a happy boy. The later versions seemed to have tracks designed for slower more manouverable craft, yet gave us fast ones that found every bump or sharp angled bend, or simply too narrow piece of track, and I died. Speed without control isn’t fun. But if the tracks are wonderfully designed, then the action flows (like Burnouts tracks & maps).
I can’t wait. In fact, can I order it now? Mmm! Off to find out.

Yep had 2097, WIP3OUT, fusion and pure loved them all.Never had the original.
Also looking at the track listings now for these games they all had over 12 music tracks fusion had 20 and pure had almost 30!
So whats the crack why not put at least 20 on this game, dang surely they got enough room on the blu ray.

unless they are gonna allow your own music tracks on this game???
