We all know how good soundtracks to previous WipEout titles have been and Sony have now announced the soundtrack to the new PSN title. The track listing looks bass-heavy and techy as ever, featuring music from Booka Shade (yes!), Kraftwerk (double yes!) and Ed Rush, Optical & Matrix (hell yes!). Not only will you get the game in 1080p at 60 frames per second, but the music has been re-mastered in Dolby™ 5.1 surround sound.
Think this one will sound as good as it looks.

Toshiba have been showing off a new TV powered by the PS3’s cell processor. The all-new gogglebox is clever enough to upscale everything fed into it, showing a crisp image, even when the source is dowdy old terrestrial TV.

SCE WORLDWIDE STUDIOS PRESIDENT
PHIL HARRISON RESIGNS
SCE Group CEO Kazuo Hirai Assumes Responsibilities
Tokyo, February 25, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), will resign from Sony Computer Entertainment Group as of February 29, 2008. Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of SCEI, will immediately assume responsibilities as president of SCE WWS, in addition to his current duties.
Prior to the launch of the original PlayStation, Phil Harrison joined Sony Electronic Publishing, Ltd. in 1992, which later evolved into Sony computer Entertainment Europe, and since then, he has made a tremendous contribution to the company playing a strategic role in the launch of four PlayStation platforms, as well as building strong relationships with game developers and publishers throughout the world. Since his appointment to the position of president, SCE WWS, Harrison applied his considerable skill, knowledge and expertise to lead SCE Group’s first party game development as well as aggressively pursuing the development of new online entertainment experiences.
“As one of the founding members of SCE, Phil played a key role in the development and growth of the PlayStation business and our industry,” said Kazuo Hirai. “It is sad to see him departing from SCE, but I wish to express my gratitude for his many invaluable contributions and also wish Phil the very best of luck in his future endeavors.”
“The past 15 years at Sony Computer Entertainment has been the defining journey of my life so far,” said Phil Harrison. “I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship. It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis. I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can.”
Over on the BBC Technology ‘dot.life’ blog, correspondent Darren Waters has some intriguing info on a yet to be announced top secret game due for release in 2009.
He claims to have been shown a trailer for a game not out until 2009, and sworn to “absolute secrecy”. Even Phil Harrison wasn’t sure whether to admit its existence when Darren mentioned it to him at GDC. “I don’t mean to be a tease - all I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is “in game”, as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion”.
We also were recently shown some early work on a game due for a circa 2009/2010 release. Very intriguing it looked too.
Let the speculation begin…

Another week, another genius competition. We have five copies of Unreal Tournament 3 to give away and all you have to do to win a copy of the game is answer this simple question.
Q: What is the name of the Necris High Inquisitor?
Email your answer to blog@threespeech.com and if you’re one of five names pulled from the draw at midday next Friday, a copy of the game could be yours.
Put UT3 in the subject of your email and, sorry, but this competition is only open to UK residents.

Released in the US last year Unreal Tournament 3 sees a UK release today. Featuring lightning fast gameplay and stunning visuals thanks to the UT3 engine, Unreal Tournament 3 is definitely one of the best reasons to own a PS3 right now.
The press have had their hands on UT3 for a while now and the reviews look good. Ign and Eurogamer both gave UT3 9/10 and ‘worth playing’ and PSX extreme gave an even higher score of 9.5/10. For more reviews of the game head over to Game Rankings. If you would rather watch a review check out the GameTrailers Video Review.
The story of UT3 involves a race called the Necris invading your character’s world. With them having slaughtered all of your fellow clan members, you set out for revenge. Multiplayer gameplay is by far the most rewarding part of the game, although a single player campaign is included where you battle advanced AI bots across various game modes.
The game features over two dozen weapons for players to try out. Vehicles play an important role in the game and have been upgraded and enhanced for maximum killing potential. The game also features a variety of game modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Warfare mode.
One thing Unreal Tournament has always been noted for is its user generated content in the form of Mods and Maps. We all know what maps are, but Mods are programs that allow game modification ranging from simple view changes to complete alterations. One example of a new map can be found here. It’s entirely made of destructable lego parts.
One of the first Mods available for UT3 on PS3 was the third person view Mod, which changes the players point of view from first to third person. Check it out in this video. It’s also worth noting that the PS3 version of the game also supports all content created for the PC version.
It’s looking good to us. What do you think? Is it on your shopping list this weekend?

The first review of Lost Planet, Capcoms frozen shooter for PS3, is up on the net via PS3 Addict who score the game a respectable 83%.

Lost Planet features a lengthy single-player campaign, as well as an impressive multiplayer mode in which you can go online and join 16 player battles. There are four modes of play and sixteen different stages. The multiplayer demo was released in Europe this week via the PSN.
