Thing is - I “want” to buy this game - but I just can’t sing for a toffee.
Interesting rumour though on the possibility of the newly revamped PSN store resembling the sing star menus of swooshy boxes and pretty colours!
Comment by JohnSketch — Feb 28, 2008 @ 11:43 am
Finally, if they keep this up I might buy a copy, give my RSI a well deserved rest
Comment by MrJimmy — Feb 28, 2008 @ 11:43 am
this is good but for some reason singsat lags on my new samsung tv a patch to stop the lag would be top of my list
Comment by shandogg — Feb 28, 2008 @ 11:55 am
OK I’ve had the lowdown from a Singstar veteran:
GOOD: the first update which is more than a weak trickle of tracks, 67 is quite special
BAD: the vast majority are from old PS2 Singstar games, and where are the current chart tracks? Whats the obsession with Roxy Music?
Long haul this one, if we get similar updates with more NEW tracks, Singstar might just secure a place as a true landmark title…
Comment by MrJimmy — Feb 28, 2008 @ 11:58 am
The Euro PSN store has updated:

Comment by Sabs — Feb 28, 2008 @ 12:42 pm
WOW! There are also some Italian tracks!!!
But, why, then there is no SingStar PS3 in Italy?
Is there an official release date?
Comment by Fabio — Feb 28, 2008 @ 12:54 pm
“Only gays and girls”? How dare you! Although personally, I never thought I’d get into “karaoke” games, it’s so much more. It’s more a “party” game than a “karaoke” game. I admit though, I NEVER play it at home on my own. But at gatherings of friends, it’s fantastic entertainment.
It’s more than “Home Karaoke”. I’ve dragged it to several parties since Christmas, and every single time it goes on, it stays on until around 6am. Loads of people go “ooooh, karaoke is not my thing” and then have to be dragged off it.
See, Karaoke is usually about idiots who love the sound of their own voice. Whereas with SingStar, you can turn the microphones right down (so the voices are not blasted through the speakers) and make it about the points… I personally love “hi-score” based games, and here’s one that even non-gamers can play. No controllers, no confusion, just sing; you can see how you’re doing and it gets quite competitive. And with an EyeToy plugged in, it is hilarious to watch back after each performance. Oh, and people seem to like the fact that they can get their actual picture on the hi-score table; a permanent record of their amazing (or not) performance. And the fact that girls love it too is a GOOD thing. Nay, a GREAT thing. It’s hardly “gay” if you’ve managed to get a room full of women over to your house post-pub to sing some songs, AND it’s one of the few ways you can legally video them (joke!)
Needs more Nirvana though. And Queens of the Stone Age, and Kings of Leon… although 67 songs is a great update. I can see a few in there that I know would go down great at my next SingStar bash…
Comment by Bentley — Feb 28, 2008 @ 1:11 pm
@8 mobiletone, I know your comment isn’t anti gay/women, but it is stereotyping in a very bludgeoning style and it’s not called for mate

Nice updcate. I’m going to be skint. Utterly skint.
And, no, I’m not gay. But I do have two daughters and a wife who love the game.
And, really, contrary to popular opinion, it does kinda rock. However, I agree with Bentley: more Nirvana and QotSA would be a good thing.

Nice to see an update with a reasonable number of tracks and some of these are actually good!
I love Singstar and the only disappointment with the PS3 version is the store. Finally we are getting some good songs so its starting to reach its potential.
Having said that, a patch that lets you record the whole performance and choose the 30 second section you want to upload yourself, would be nice.

@Bentley - sorry, you’ve just made me hate the whole thing even more, i’ve watched some of the singstar videos and quite frankly i have come to the conclusion it will be a very cold day, several billion years after the sun has died before i even remotely contemplate playing that thing!
if i want to hum along to a tune i’ll put a cd on and do so, videoing the whole thing and looking like a complete tool, in front of the rest of the community is just a bit beyond my pride levels.
@ MrJimmy - i have yet to see any evidence to the contrary
i am anti-karaoke though. it ruined one of my favorite pubs and i shall never forgive it for that.

I just want to copy and paste what this guy said coz thats how i feel-
Why is there no post about the utter unbelievable travesty of this weeks PSN update. THreespeech, who if not yourselves is going to let SCEE know the anger and disapointment of SCEEs customers. SCEE wont even give an official blog for Europe as America has.
This weeks update is the final straw, my patience has snapped I have lost confidence in the people who are running the SCEE PSN store. Who are these incompetent people. They are letting us all down and harming the Playstation brand.
there are over20 ps1 games pegi rated in europe and ready to go and these incompetent people could not even get 1 title to the store. That is a disgrace. There is no valid excuse for all the PSN missing content also.
Sack these people and get staff who are capable or close the European store and give us global access to paid content , its about time threespeech started to stand up on our behalf and pass our complaints to SCEE. Everthing about PS3 is really coming together with ONE GLARING exception. The SCEE Store is letting Sony down and causing damage to playstation. This situation cannot go on, action must be taken against the incompetent running of our store. It is losing money for sony and leaving potential customers with nothing to buy. What kind of store has no content??? is this soviet era russia ? who the hell is to blame for this gross incompetence and failure??? THIS HAS TO BE FIXED

@32, trust me you have to. At first people were friendly and constructive but no answers if people got abusive just the odd “dont say that” post.
The shit about semi official is annoying as well. Why exactly would then the official US blog direct EU people here to talk to SCEE? because they are semi? no.
The mere idea that any one would be so dumb as to pay to run a site to be “semi-official” for the shit that is SCEE is rediculous.
The problem is we dont know if its managers or its down to the actual staff but if its managers I know they are absolute twats wherever you work (for the most part). They have no excuses to delay games, or demos for that matter.
The silence is what gets to people the most. If ThreeSpeech were based In the midlands I’d find the people responsible for the crappy updates and speak to them directly (failing that just beat the shit out of them one day after work) I payed £425 for a console that I have bought 2-3 games for that are PS3 and pixel junk monsters. The least they could do is release demo’s or games via the PSN that are worth 1) My loyality to the brand, 2) my £425 investment, 3) Downloading, (crappy games, shite trailers)
btw, not all the post was aimed at you 32 its just I went off on one after my first small paragraph.
No doubt this will be deleted.

but nothings happened so….
….whats the point of this site or SCEE for that matter?
I’m not having a go at TS here, I’m sure they are sick of relaying our complaints to deaf ears.
If TS cannot get an answer then we have to assume that SCEE have no interest in talking to us whatsoever.
SCEE’s managers need sacked… NOW! They’ve had their chance. It’s almost a year we’ve been putting up with this.
If some people like uberl33t want to keep bending over for SCEE then fine. Have fun and bring lube!
For the rest of us lets take our money elsewhere as its clearly the only way we will be able to get Sony to take notice of their shitty management at SCEE.
We can wait for the US PSN cards or use sites like Entropay. Either way time to dump SCEE in every way possible.

Comment by katamari-ball — Feb 29, 2008 @ 10:05 am
TS, can you answer this for me, and all of us:
What EXACTLY is your connection with SCEE? Who do you speak to in the company and what input do you have?
We all post here as we believe it to be the closest we can get to Sony but the complete lack of response suggests either you, or SCEE are ignoring us. I give you the benefit of the doubt that it’s them but if so, why do you keep posting such sit-on-the-fence responses, aren’t you angry at them?
Comment by TheShirts — Feb 29, 2008 @ 10:48 am
I inttend to repost that comment in every article until I get an answer, or banned
Comment by TheShirts — Feb 29, 2008 @ 10:49 am
TheShirts, you need to recognise this for what it is, it’s simply a marketing tool. You can’t expect them to give out details or make negative comments about SCEE. If you want proper answers I suggest going to the official european playstation community forums.
Comment by John — Feb 29, 2008 @ 11:43 am
@55
The closest way to SCEE is through their official forums really, they have a sticky thread regarding the store updates, and they have a comunity team that reads such threads, and in fact spend much time trawling those forums, and many others, for feedback.
Comments from sites like here and the official forums do get read, however it is then down to the management to do soemthing about the feedback they get passed on…but believe me, these comments are read.
Comment by mikeck — Feb 29, 2008 @ 12:55 pm
57: I don’t think anybody wants them to make negative comments about SCEE. What we want is for SCEE to sort things out so that we’re getting a reasonable service compared to the competition (XBL) and the rest of the world (US PSN) and for it to be announced here. And there are, as far as I can see, no answers on the official community forums - just more angry customers.

Wow, 67 songs!! that’s amazing!
Weelllll, actually, it’s not.
How many of you already have most of the 67 songs on the PS2 discs? Are you gonna fork out 99p each to add them to the PS3 version?? Also, is Fred Boggins from Castle Bromwich gonna fork out 99p for Jan Eggum: På’an igjen?????
C’mon guys (and gals), we all love Singstar, but this is getting beyond a joke!!!
We all know the history of “300+ songs on release” to the shambolic pitiful updates every two weeks, but there must be a way that $ony could charge you a flat fee to import the songs off of a PS2 Singstar disk?? But I guess that the usual $ony ethos of crap publicity, pi$$ poor communication/customer satisfaction and increased revenue will always mean more to them than customer loyalty, increased customer satisfaction and lower revenues.
I don’t want to bash $ony - I love my PS3, but seriously, they must be either swallowing stooopid pills by the dozen, or they really REALLY don’t give a monkeys……..I know which one I’m starting to believe.
Comment by Beeblebrox — Feb 29, 2008 @ 6:28 pm
if singstore catoured more for a rock and grunge audience, or rather supplied that audience with more songs (give us a load of pearl jam, alice in chains, nirvana, soundgarden, etc) then Id pick it up in an instant…
I can see that they’re catouring for the karaoke audience right now, which makes sense, but right now I feel a little left out in the dark… I guess I’ll have to wait for rock band.
