June 12th European launch for Metal Gear Solid 4
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH announced that the eagerly-awaited Metal Gear Solid® 4: Guns of the Patriots for PLAYSTATION®3 will be released across Europe on June 12th.
The game will be released on a Blu-Ray disc containing both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Online – a dedicated online title that uses locations and gameplay elements from Guns of the Patriots. Together, they form a stunning conclusion to Hideo Kojima’s involvement in the final chapter to the Solid Snake saga.
With the anticipation for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online growing at a phenomenal rate, Konami will whet appetites with a public beta version of Metal Gear Online before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. Full details of the public beta program will be announced shortly.
Concluding Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid saga, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a battle-scarred future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. This devastated world is seen through the battle-weary eyes of an older Solid Snake who has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America. As such, the epic end to Snake’s story offers ground-breaking combat elements, a refined control system that offers unprecedented control over the aged hero, and the tying up of key plot lines and loose ends.
Similarly, the accompanying Metal Gear Online features all the stunning stealth and combat elements of Guns of the Patriots, as it drops the player into a series of war zones and game options. With all-out ‘Last Man Standing’ battles to rescue and protection missions, Metal Gear Online effortlessly transfers the sublime control system of the series to an online competition, creating an absorbing battle between like-minded fans.
I’ll need an empty lake bed as I am gonna be breaking world records with drool!

Probably going to be ordering this one from the US. Seems the extra goodies will not be bundled with the EU version. Like the DVD with MGS background story and automatic access to the MGS Online beta.

Hideo Kojima has stated on TV that the public beta version of Metal Gear Online will be for Japanese gamers only.

Soooo long to wait
June can’t come soon enough! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m just as interested in how the story is going to conclude and what other philosophical issues kojima will bring up this time, as in playing the game itself
And I don’t want to see a SINGLE review mentioning the excessive cutscenes - they’re what makes the game!!
Comment by Geoff — Feb 29, 2008 @ 6:57 pm
As a side note, I notice that you have avoided posting this week’s abysmal store update threespeech. Any word from SCEE yet as to why it sucks??
Comment by Geoff — Feb 29, 2008 @ 6:59 pm
@8: As it turns out it sucks because they did an abysmal store update this week
@threespeech: Isn’t the results of the Unreal Tournament competition meant to be out today?
Comment by Christian — Feb 29, 2008 @ 7:01 pm
you mean GAMER.TV lied to me!? maybe they have changed things since that program, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Japs beta test it first still.
personally i’m not that bothered by MGS4
waiting for Army of Two hitting the shelves next week.

Not wanting to imply that Sony have been a bit rubbish at releasing things on time in Europe recently, but did they specify a *year* for our June 12th launch?

Quote from Sony on MCV website -
“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.â€
MGS4 and in-game XMB around the same time… Should keep some people happy.
