I just wish that they bring back the Upscaling and smoothing of FW 2.0. Right now no matter if you have the upscaling on or of or turn the smoothing on or off, the games always look the same, just like they did on my old PS2, but with 2 black bars on the side. With 2.0 the games could be played fullscreen (no bars at all) and the upscaling and smoothing made the PS2 games look much better. I hope Sony doesn't forget about the people who bought first release PS3's, paid a lot for them and maybe would like to enjoy the PS3 BC as good as possible.

hi i am the proud new owner of a ps3. installed linux on it with RSX suport(basic support...) updated to 2.01 and i am using a proxy server to avoid updating to 2.10... i find i cant sign up for the PSN. which is sad because that means i cant BUY tekken 5 (somthing i was planing to throw money at...) i can by use of proxy dl stuff though folding@home but i cant use the offical folding at home.

basicly i have money to spend and i want to enjoy the playstation network. but i will not let go of my RSX usage. see my media i watch is mainly MKV containers that have subtitles in english and 2 audio tacks japanese and english... its my format of choice for hd video...

with linux and rsx i can do movie play back that the ps3 xmb dosnt support.

so here is my comment on 2.10

its nice to see divx suport on the ps3
it would have been nicer to see somthing like the support that the Combined comunity Codec Pack has to offer. (ie playback of evorything)

it was not nice to see more restrictions to the RSX.
to be honest i wanted my ps3 to be able to run some older pc games in the linux enviorment. and to be useable as a pc at lan partys.

the ps3 version of unreal tournament 3 will not play on a network with pc users...

yet in linux with the proper setup and rsx suport i belive the pc version of ut2k3 might have run in the linux enviorment allowing me to play that at lans(except my local lan party is boycotting ut3 because its not as fun as ut2k4)

overall i wish sony would unblock the RSX in linux.

now this would not harm sales of ps3 games. it would do the exact opisite. in fact it probly would keep people like me...
and there are alot of people like me.

in the PSN, buying games, and suporting the ps3...

as is i intend to buy the big titles...mgs4 dmc4 final fantasy XIII and final fantasy Vrs XIII

but... if rsx's small restrictions are reversed... and linux suport goes back to how it was in 2.01 ill update to the next incantation of the ps3 firmware.

and aditionaly buy tekken dark resurection. online version
and in addition i will also purchase war hawk and might even consider doing the home beta.

piracy isnt something i desire.
i own a psp with custom firmware on it.
but i also keep dumping money on umd's or my recent Crisis Core Bundle purchase.

i am glad ps3 games are region free. but if you as a company want sales increased. please pass on my little comment. (also sorry about the spelling errors i was pulled out of school for 2 years and thrown into a foster home... and because of that my academic preformence suffered)

NICE UPDATE, like the voice changer as i have very deep voice over mics normally and now sound half way human by using +2, VC-1 ace, am now streaming some WMV/AVI files off my PC no problem. ps1 remote play! yes. Parasite Eve II on a psp. DIVX files downloaded from stage 6 work fine.

to download stage6 stuff straight into your ps3 use this url format in the browser address entry

http://video.stage6.com/XXXXXXX/.divx

where XXXXXXX is the videos id number in the embed form on the videos play page. you'll see what i mean, then save to your HD and play back.

where abouts is the earth visualiser? i can't seem to find it.

I instaleld the update last night and all my anime worked with subtitles. I'm streaming all my media from my windows Vista PC to the PS3 and all fo them are AVI's and all are anime. It even worked for some AVI's that are 2-3 years old and others that are a month old.

Zaz: ( reply 50 )
I am a developer myself and know very well how much it takes to get divX to work. That is why I think it is a waste of time. People will probably use a transcoding mediaserver anyway.
The time used to get divX working ( almost 100% ) could be spend on something more important. There will be a new better codec tomorrow... It's the never ending hunt. Either open up the platform, so developers can make codec plug-ins... Or make UPnP work 100% wireless and wired. Getting UPnP to work again will probably take less than a day... as it worked in FW 1.9x.

e.g. If you ( Sony ) choose to embed a web browser and make it possible for people to install other os ( like Linux ). People would expect things to work just as good as on their PC. If it ain't that good, people will be disappointed.

Often PS3 is mentioned as a mediamachine. Sure it plays music, films and shows pictures. But the interface is not very good. IMHO. Especially when you want to handle multiple files.

It is not an easy task. But if anybody can pull it off... It is Sony.

Unleash the beast!!!

This is an excellent update and I cannot believe some people still choose to moan about the lack of in game XMB. But then most of us are used to that on hear as some people are never happy!

Personally I have no use for in game XMB, but I do have use for playing DivX files - quite a bit. Sony can't please everyone at every time, but as been pointed out above (and on numerous other sites) they know you want it so please stop going on about it.

However, one thing I would like to see is some improvements to the web browser (and the PSP browser too). For example, I'm not sure if it occurs on every site but iframes don't appear to work, it can be very slow to load pages sometimes and sites often appear slightly broken - but that could possibly be down to web designers not using valid code.

Also another point, TS have you actually viewed this site using the PS3 browser? It appears to have problems - the right hand column is displayed under the main body of text rather than alongside.
