[...] Re: PS3 Release Dates 2008 UK, October 18, 2007 - It's been revealed that Capcom is bringing its frosty shooter Lost Planet to PlayStation 3. Sony fans should rejoice to hear that the game is set to ship with all additional content offered as a download to 360 owners, on the Blu-ray disc. What's more, the PS3 version will also star extra characters - including Mega Man, Frank (Dead Rising) and Jo - previously only available in the PC edition. Capcom also announced that this PS3 iteration has a 16-player online mode and that it's set for release in early 2008. This exciting news comes via semi-official PlayStation 3 blog Three Speech - which helpfully broke the embargo from yesterday's Capcom Gamers Day. You go, guys This game is sooo freakin sweet, online is good too DAMN I CAN'T WAIT! __________________ [...]

@ Jagz: I agree with your comments and as I've said before, Sony's strategy for PS3 has been abysmal.

I love Ace Combat and I've got ALL the PS1, PS2 and PSP versions (I love the PSP version) but now I can't play it any more, can I?

@ JohnSketch:

Lost Planet for PS3 is a straight port of the X360 and PC versions - it amalgamates the missions and stuff like that from both versions.

Considering this is Capcom's first engine code for the PS3, then I'd say don't expect anything spectacularly special about it.

As for the X360 DVD limitation (and remember, I do not own a X360) - technically speaking, after you consider that you can compress all the data on a 8.5GB dual layer/single-sided DVD (gets you up to a conservative 12GB - depending on the algorithm), if this is still not enough, Microsoft have the ability to provide latter game levels free on-line.

Developers will simply write the game with as many levels as they can on the DVD and, if you have a broadband connection to XBL, the game will simply stream the latter levels and store them on the HDD.

If you don't have XBL, tough, you will play a shorter version of the game. If you don't have an HDD, well, now's your chance to upgrade to one. Microsoft will force fans' hands, simple as that!

These techniques are not far-fetched and with today's broadband technology, are certainly achievable.

Generally speaking, I really don't see this as a problem but I do APPRECIATE that Sony have a better console design than Microsoft and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY (really) want them to succeed.

I just don't like their marketing decisions for the PS3 and I certainly do NOT appreciate their treatment of UK/European LOYAL fan base; I don't need to reiterate my gripes, if you care to read previous posts, I'm sure you'll get the picture.

Much like other people on here who seem to have conspiracy theories about Microsoft (Shab), and that's a completely different topic which I do not wish to dilute this blog with, I refuse to accept the treatment of the PS fan base by the very corporation who's console we've grown up with, loved and supported for the last two generations.

Sony should not be afraid of its own success in this market. They should look back with pride on 2 previous successful generations of achievements, treat customers with respect (worldwide release in all territories as promised, fair pricing - I'd settle for more value for my money - for UK/Europe, fantastic games on release day OR simply wait until it can be achieved) and say to themselves: WHO THE F*CK DO THESE TW*TS MICROSOFT THINK THEY ARE? WE DICTATE WHEN NEXGEN STARTS, NOT THEM OR ANYONE ELSE!!

Now that's confidence (even arrogance) that I'd wholeheartedly support...

...Over & Out.

Hate to say it, but by the time ps5 is out, sony should be winning again, going by ninty stats. Anyway I see the main problem being the 360-ps3 split while the wii sidesteps all this.
M$ isn't good for any market though. Thank Europe for anti monopoly rules, M$ office on MAC...

@48 - Isn't Ace combat 6 touted for release to PS3 albeit a "timed-exclusive" for 360

@49 - Patience, once the 360 "WELL" of Hardware Resources dries up, the latest and greatest apps will premier on PS3 - if not to show off the greatest visual fidelity that can be accomplished within this Generation of Consoles - remember unlike Microsoft, Sony doesn't have Billions upon Billions of Pounds to throw at developers to keep them exclusive. What they "DO" have though is the brand image.

New purchasers of consoles will look on the shelves and see Lost Planet 360 and then see Lost Planet PS3 (with added levels/making of documentaries/shinier graphics)

Who cares about what was released - the console generation has only "JUST" begun! so new folk buying into it will 9/10 get the better version for there money.

Something to think about.

Just another thought Jon, I'd rather have the game a year earlier than have a few extra bonus missions and a more shiny gloss a year later ..
