In an interview with Japanese website ITMedia +D Games, SCE president Kaz Hirai has said that developers should focus activity around the PS3 when making multi-platform games.
When asked about the trend for companies to develop across all platforms, Hirai responded: “When you consider the cost of developing on today’s platforms, I think it’s a logical progression that they’re all thinking of making their games cross-platform.
“But I think it’s important that third parties use the unique characteristics of the platform to add a little bit of extra flavour to their games. For example, with the PS3, you’ve got the Sixaxis controller, or you could utilise the extra capacity provided by Blu-ray to add more levels, put on interviews with the developers or have your videos able to play in 1080p. I think it’s really important that we talk with third party developers so that they can have these interesting extras in the PlayStation 3 version.”
Sounds like a good idea to us. Heavenly Sword with ‘making of’ and ’story board’ extras anyone???

why the Heavenly sword in this posting,
we are already bored to death with every week movie releases about the game since the last 2 months.
making of,face building,anime,etc,etc,etc..
online options,additional costumes,caracters,

Yeah its a great idea - the Warhawk Blu-ray has some developer videos I think.
Also, the PS3 special edition version of Stranglehold has a full HD film loaded on the Blu-ray.

Well, nobody’s forcing anyone to watch the Heavenly Sword videos, are they now?
Those who don’t plan on buying the game won’t care either way. Those who do decide to purchase it, however, will quite obviously enjoy that kind of extra content.
(Online options? Additional costumes? Are we still talking about Heavenly Sword or have we moved on to Folklore?
)

I agree it is a good thing to encourage. But what has become of parts 4+ of the HS prologue animation? I’ve enjoyed watching these dynamic animations in previous weeks.

It would be stupid of 3rd party developers to put extracontent on a PS3 version. Because the Xboxs will go crazy, and if the Xboxs get extra like maps PS3 fans will get angry.
Also it doesnt benefit the devs that much since they have to make the extra levels, or the vids or skins etc.

It’s great they’re talking about extra content, but can Europe GET some of that content please? Blast Factor add-on pack, anyone? How about all the extra things America has which we don’t, despite us buying more consoles?
What’s up with that?

Heavenly Sword concept art is what i’m gagging for -
Have you had any reply from Ninja Theory/Sony about additional artwork? or even information on the artists/equipment they use/software etc ?

@6 (Youlikeyams) - Now THAT’s a very good question…
The region where the PS3 did best is apparently last on SCEI’s list of priorities. Does it make me a naysayer that I find this incredibly annoying?
Judging from the discontent expressed in the official PS EU forums, I’m not the only who’s not too gleeful about the current state of affairs.

Of course Kaz wants devs to focus on the PS3. Maybe devs would have if Sony had been catering to them since the beginning and making it easier for them. Sony put themselves in this position. If they want devs to focus on the PS3 they should take a cue from MS.

Filling up a Blu-Ray with that sort of stuff is lovely ‘n all, but (and I say this as someone who won’t have a MicroSoft product in the house) it does rather lend credence to the “you don’t need all that space” argument.

Seeing as all of Sonys games are cross platform and out on xbox 360 first it means little why we have all that extra space to be honest. Are they piles of PS3’s behind that bloke in the pic, I wonder why their not selling../

It seems to me developers are already looking to take advantage of the extra power and features of the PS3. The upcoming version of DiRT for the PS3 will have superior sound compared to other versions for example. I am sure there are other examples to if one starts tracking these things.
