[...] What they don’t explain in the article, unfortunately for storage format war purposes, is whether that 10 GB footprint of sound takes up that much space on a Blu-ray disc. Is that the final compressed size? Or is that the master recording data? Semi-official Sony blog ThreeSpeech says says it’s the former, so it’s possible they took advantage of the extra storage and left much of it uncompressed. [...]

Multiple languages don't take that much extra space: Jak 2 on PS2 had 7 languages on a DVD, and the game world was huge, there were no loading times and the graphics were awesome.

One of the many great things about Blu-ray....and one of the most important features in gaming which is usually ignored. A great game needs great music and sounds

@ Brandon,
Ok 11 languages is a bit over the top. But you are missing the point here. We don't know this fot sure, but if it is true that they don't have to compress the game to make room for storage it's only for the best. This will speed up loading times and makes the game more fluid. So you can also look at this as an positive thing :)

@Brandon: I’m very happy that they include all languages. That way I can buy a DVD in any country, and don’t have to worry that it e.g. doesn’t contain English dialogue but only German.

And hopefully this will mean the end of Japanese games which get an English dub, and no option to choose the original Japanese dialogue because they don’t have the disk space to contain both, which is what happened so often on the PS2.

Um...however according to Kotaku its 4500 lines of speech...in 11 languages.

I think that PS3 developers need to start compressing some of their data. Its just stupid to flaunt the large capacity of the Blu-ray format for no reason. I guess they can do whatever the heck they want, but it makes me mad when they say, "We needed 80 gigs! It could only be for PS3! PS3 FTW!!!!". The truth is that Sony wants them to include all the data they can (11 languages...?) and to not compress files so Sony can justify the inclusion of Blu-ray tech.

I'm all for the Blu-ray drive and I see it as the most appealing aspect of the PS3, but it makes me mad when they do this kind of stupid crap.
