There HAS to be DAMAGE!!!
Comment by Surtur — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:10 pm
Are those seriously in-game, cause they’re unbeleivable!
Comment by Adam — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:13 pm
What the hell is going on in the wing and rear view mirrors?!?!?
Screen 5 is horrendous! It looks like 8-bit!
Comment by Tony Nibbles — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:19 pm
and to think this is only Prologue! Great job Polyphony Digital and great job Sony!
Comment by nekon — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:22 pm
whats all the fuss about having damage/no damage in GT5?, surely the object of racing is to pass other cars as cleanly as possible!?, im up for realism as much as the next gamer, i can imagine if polyphony had damage in the online game that it would put you out straight away(no re spawn)which would soon sort out the true racer and the f*****g idiot who just wants to ruin everyone elses fun, i just want the game for my 40″ HDTV 1080i tv coz you know its gonna look totally and truly next gen!(im still hoping it’ll support the new rumble)
Comment by linton — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:25 pm
i downloaded the trailers from PSN and was amazed. this game gorgeous.
mirrors: maybe that is going to be the last thing the dev’s work on. those poor graphics just might be place holders. although i think the 8 bit look is kinda neat for such a minor thing. man i hope i can use my psp as a mirror in this game.
Comment by jerrt — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:40 pm
Some people just love to complain about games that are far from being finished. Yeah, let’s ignore the fact that GT5P looks incredible, it’s more important to complain (and to troll) about minor stuff.
Comment by VG Aficionado — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:56 pm
Oh sweet.
Comment by Youlikeyams — Jul 31, 2007 @ 6:56 pm
oh how lovley is that. cant belive .. a heartattack
Comment by hogleg — Jul 31, 2007 @ 8:12 pm
That is stunningly beautiful. This game never ceases to amaze me. I simply cannot wait to play it!
Comment by Parker — Jul 31, 2007 @ 8:51 pm
This is beyond next-gen. It’s like next gen. 2.0. Amazing. I’m happy to see the power of the PS3 Cell/RSX in these newer PS3 games.
Comment by nmc75 — Jul 31, 2007 @ 10:25 pm
Stunning.
Comment by Ricky — Jul 31, 2007 @ 10:41 pm
GT5 and MGS4 are showing the superiority of the PS3 - but still, game designers want to cut corners visually where they can to make a game look and play the best that it can, and the reason there is no damaged in GT5 is because you will then lose approximately 10% of the games detail by running a damaged system and also for online play a damaged system will just add more data transfer, which leads to more lag…
By the way, the blocky views from the mirrors are just another way of cutting corners, because running the full graphics in the mirrors will just use more of the PS3’s power and thus less detail in other more important areas, so instead they have a separate low detail system for that. As for the low detail trees - there just background filler trees, behind higher detailed trees, and you will have a hard time spotting them in the game, but an aerial view will obviously show them, which was how people noticed them on the E3 trailer.
For me I have no interest at all in damaged cars… they just look… erm… damaged… and in real-life, if you do hit something at speed, the car is normally wrecked, which would be piss-boring for online play. And as for the mirrors – they look acceptable to me, and like most people I will mostly play the normal stock GT car view anyway, because watching the car is more fun and it also allows for more precision in your driving because you can visually place the car where you want better because you can see the whole thing.

Stuff I love in these screens:
1. The graphics… duh! (I don’t consider my self a graphics whore but DAMN!)
2. The game speedo actually matches the cars speedo - nice…
3. Position 16/16. That means 16 cars in races. Sweet!
Stuff that needs work:
1. Mirrors obviously aren’t finished.
2. The temperature indicator in the Audi shows -3,5. Thats cold!
Comment by Aitrus — Aug 1, 2007 @ 8:13 am
All I am drooling over interior wise at the moment is the detail of the heart of the car that is of course the engine. But overall I love the other parts of the graphics as well.
Comment by Jamie Wynder — Aug 1, 2007 @ 10:16 am
kicks the shit out of pgr
Comment by Jagz — Aug 1, 2007 @ 10:22 am
@Aitrus on stuff that needs work, point 2:
Well, the date says December and the radio says Bayern3, so minus 3.5C seems like a very believable temperature for that time at that place :), so that only leaves the mirrors…
A lot more has been done in 4 months
(On the radio display.. does that mean we’ll actually be able to stream track-local radio stations for that ‘genuine experience’ ? Totally useless, but it would be a nice touch
)
Comment by Xtc — Aug 1, 2007 @ 11:07 am
Hope we see prologue this side of xmas, but you know what polyphony is like…
Comment by Rothbury — Aug 1, 2007 @ 11:13 am
@Xtc
The radio does say Bayern3, but they are obviously racing on the Suzuka circuit in Japan… So it’s a pretty good radio!
Maybe they just haven’t finished the centre display, with radio and temp.
Comment by Aitrus — Aug 1, 2007 @ 11:17 am
I love the fact that the Audi R8 is being so heavily featured in the screenshots. I really love that car (and my dad’s cousin was the guy behind the electronic shock absorber technology used in the R8, TT and the Ferrari 599), and can’t wait to drive it in game!
My only concern is the inconsistency of anti-aliasing in the screens. I know it’s a beta or alpha even, but the screens with AA look so much better than those without, and I don’t understand why it’s not always there. I hope there aren’t problems with it.
Comment by Silent_Shark — Aug 1, 2007 @ 11:52 am
Clearly they still have a lot of work to do, but these screens (if they’re from GT5 and not GT5 Prologue) are certainly encouraging.
We already know they will be including damage for the first time. And we know that they’ll be including real-time weather.
But they still have a way to go on rendering textures and full 3D objects instead of just ‘cardboard cut-out’ trees etc.
Looking good - can’t wait to see the final product next year… and GT5 Prologue will keep me happy in the meantime too!

Comment by Roger — Aug 1, 2007 @ 1:43 pm
There seems to be a serious lack of detail in those in-game shots. Can’t see anything here to make me regret buying a 360 instead of hanging on for a price drop on PS3
Comment by Robin — Aug 1, 2007 @ 1:45 pm
Can someone confirm that the first 2 screens are actual screenshots or are these real? The backgrounds are surely too real?
Comment by Jim — Aug 1, 2007 @ 1:47 pm
I’d like to say that while I prefer not to crash, we sometimes do. If we do, then I think it’s only reasonable to see some form of concequence. A little rubbing should discolour and crease your motor, resulting in a little expence to fix. Spanking it hard should hurt more. As for online, how cool would it be to see players spoon it when the pressure was really on them, misjudge a corner, and cartwheel away, or just slide into a (deformable) gravel trap. Shout for joy as you show them your exhaust.
I hope the online experience will be as fast, easy to access, and as satisfying as the rank game system in Resisance. Regardless of the game in question, the method and speed of finding a compatible game, and starting it is simply unparrallelled (well, in my experience anyway).
Do you think they’ll let me race a bike around a track, chasing the cars?
Do you think I might be able to change the CD in the in car CD changer, i.e. play my own tunes?
Do you think they’ll show us the rally stages soon?
Do you think they’ll have alternative times of day and weather?
Oooh, I just want it sooooo bad.
Do you think they’ll hurry up and let me have it real real soon?

@Jim
The first 2 shots look like some kind of photo mode like the one in GT4 - to me at least.
Comment by Aitrus — Aug 1, 2007 @ 3:42 pm
@Aitrus
Yeah the E3 trailer ends with a similar shot.
Ive never played GT before so could you tell me whats the point of these ‘photo modes’? has it anything to do with the game itslef or is it just for presentation purposes?
thanks for your original response

Fierce jaggies on some of those though. Too bad Polyphony Digital is owned by Sony.

Didnt anyone else notice the hands in the in car view. They look messed up.

Clothing of the pitcrew and driver is way too shiny. Are they wearing metallic clothing? I think not.

The photo mode in GT4 is a mode where you can place your car in a number of different surroundings and adjust ligthing, camera postion etc. and take a picture. I never used it much my self, but the point is that you can save the picture to a flash disk and show it off, print it or whatever.
