Hi guys, there will be a rss feed and it will be available through itunes. In fact there will be two separate feeds, number one will have all the Red-Rant.com podcast + the ThreeSpeech podcasts, the second will be dedicated to ThreeSpeech. I will post the information when it’s available. Also we have created a version of Red Rant for Consoles and Mobile devices etc. this can be found at lite.red-rant.com.

Great “first” episode indeed! Sometimes though i get the feeling you guys dont really want to go too indepth because of time constraints which i hear on alot of other podcasts too. Specially when it comes to reviewing games (like WarHawk for instance) and im sure a lot of euro-ppl would love to hear more details about it.
Comment by Makasu — Jun 25, 2007 @ 7:21 pm
Good first effort lads, but I think Sony are in a glass house when it comes their competitors PR
Bottom line, Sony, spouted bull at E3 2005 and haven’t been backtracking ever since
The blog marks a step in the right direction, but at the moment I’m still looking for more from the glossy dust magnet that sits under my TV
Comment by Sean — Jun 25, 2007 @ 7:37 pm
Hi all, I have now made the Threespeech podcast feed, simply bang “http://feeds.feedburner.com/Threespeech.xml” into your chosen aggregator. At this time the feed does not work on the psp, the meta data appears but no episodes… I will try and fix this. I have also submitted the podcast to Apple, after it has been approved I’m sure there will be an announcement on the threespeech front page and links will be added to the feed itself.
Also Makasu, that type of feedback is awesome and exactly the sort of stuff we can work on! This was in theory a ‘Pilot’ episode for Threespeech and the fact of the matter is we don’t have a fixed time constraint. Even so we have to strike a balance and keep it a reasonable length. Thanks alot and looking forward to more feedback.
Comment by David Darke — Jun 25, 2007 @ 7:38 pm
Like Dave said, we don’t want to run on too long talking waffle, and we don’t want it to be too short either. It’s hard to try and strike a good balance
Any feedback from all of you ThreeSpeechers is welcome so we can improve as the months go on.

I’ll admit I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but with what I’ve heard about it, I would list my thoughts here, but I feel Joystiq did a great job talking about it on their site here:
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/sonys-three-speech-launches-podcast-takes-cheap-shot-at-major/
If Sony was so straight to everything talking about the PS3, then you would think they would have a professional site/blog to give information, not a “semi-official” blog which sounds more like a fanblog. Don’t get me wrong, fanblogs are great, infact I run one myself. If you would even bring up the topic about game delays, why not mention Nintendo? Nintendo is the king of game delays (although the king of games period) not Microsoft. Ask Europe, they know all about delays.

Funny “Xbots” comment where there’s a lot of fanboy attitute on this podcast. Listen to the latest Major Nelson podcast and there’s zero dissing about Sony - in fact, there’s quite a lot of praise and respect.
I agree with joystiq - this podcast comes out as a trainwreck of typical Sony arrogance. Change the fucking record and maybe you’ll sell a few more PS3s.
Comment by Monkey65 — Jun 26, 2007 @ 12:42 pm
Frankly, as a European gamer, I thought ye might appreciate how terrible the treatment we’ve gotten from Sony has been.
Major Nelson is a good man, who takes all the flack that the Xbox Division gets, he is their Community liaison, and gets all kinds of messages on site, he has to put up with alot.
However Three Speech? This anonymous collection of Journalists, it’s about time ye open ye’re closed eyes, and realise that ye too, work for/are paid by a corporation.
Consider the fact, ye mightn’t even be doing a podcast if wasn’t for the fact that Major Nelson has been doing one for years.
I think ye should apologise,
I like Three Speech, I’ve been reading it since Day 1, but I’m surprised ye sunk this low.

That’s very poor form to have a pop at Major Nelson, even if this site wasn’t run by a bunch of journalists fed editorial by SCEE. It’s doubly so in that light.
Seriously, blog.playstation.com has been off to a good start and Larry was good enough to extend a welcome. ThreeSpeech in no position to get uppity over it and it’s absolutely not needed anyway.
Kudos for starting a podcast (finally) but please less of the throwing of stones, Sony are still considerably in the glass dog house as far as a lot of gamers are concerned.

For those wanting iTunes:
Right click the “RSS Feed” icon at the top of this page and cut and paste the URL:
Then, in iTunes, under the “Advanced” menu, click “Subscribe to Podcast” and paste the URL in the box. iTunes will grab the blog feed and discard anything without attachments (giving you an iTunes podcast).

Sorry, I’ve been with ThreeSpeech since the beginnng, but I turned it off halfway thru. I’m not a fanboy of any system but own all of them and was very dismayed to hear you all slagging off Microsoft and Major Nelson that way. It was very unprofessional imo. Why can you not talk up the highlights of Sony’s products without mudslinging the competition?
And for some constructive criticism, I would try to impose a bit more structure on the podcast. I am sure it’s difficult with 4 people expressing opinions, but this podcast was all over the place. Also, try to get the sound levels more equalized; there were some voices that were quite clear while another responded and could hardly be heard.
Finally I think Ben has a sexy voice!
Good luck in the future, and let’s keep it civil. After all, we’re all gamers at heart, and competition is good for all of us.

Comment by Ben Furneaux — Jun 26, 2007 @ 11:20 pm
Well I listened to the whole show this morning and here are a few criticisms if I may.
Have a plan going into these. Draft a list of stuff you want to talk about and actually explore the subject.
The whole “Major Nelson snipe” thing didn’t really bother me although I listen and really enjoy his show each week.
The parts that I did dislike was the extrapolating on the attacking a church during mass scenario. I’m surry but napalming a baby isn’t funny any way you spin it.
Also stating that you need to enjoy the Home Beta “before sony lets the rabble in” might not be the best way to portrait the flagship feature of the company that feeds you exclusive content.
Another thing: Calling games you’re reviewing as well as half the PS3 games you’re talking about “total shit” on air isn’t the best way to get people to invest in the platform you’re pushing nor is it the best way to have developpers/publishers share their content with you.
Otherwise, make sure the mic levels are decent, don’t play with the mics during the show (where’s one point you could actually hear someone fumbling with the mic).

Perhaps in your next podcast you can elaborate on how MS PR is slimy (compared to Sony’s) and why you referred to Major Nelson as the “un-named blogger” despite the fact you’ve posted on his site several times?
There are plenty of legitimate criticisms you can throw at MS PR if you wish, though I’d maintain a Sony podcast isn’t really the place for them. Given the PR gaffes Sony have made over the last 18 months or so it’s just dumb.
Given that you guys are just starting out with the blogs and podcasts which he’s been doing for quite some time, cheap shots just seem unnecessary. Especially when he’s decent enough to give you a welcome and the playstation blog was off to a good start.
I’m sure you’re also aware the Major has a lot of radio experience and produces his own shows, which is why his podcasts are of a good quality. I’ve heard nothing from him that would indicate that he wouldn’t be willing to give you a few tips so instead of needlessly slagging him off why not take up his open invite to appear on his show and maybe learn something?
Comment by deftangel — Jun 27, 2007 @ 1:06 am

Err, I’ve listened to the Major’s podcast for at least 6 months if not more.
I was definately listening to it around the time the PS3 was released and I can’t really remember a single time where the Major took a cheap shot (or any type of shot for that matter) at the PS3.
Sure he’s asked his guests their thoughts on the PS3, He’s also drawn comparisons with the 360’s offerings and those are biased since he works for them. I seriously can’t recall however him taking a swipe at the PS3 or Sony at all.

This “xbot” word is interesting.
I’ve thought about it, and it implies a mindless likeing to the xbox. However, using it against somebody and then hoisting a competitor implies a mindless liking of that product. So call us Xbots, You yourselves are sucking at Sony’s teet, you just don’t have a name that is easily to turn around.
Ps. Where is that second HDMI port???

Semi-official my ass. Middle management has some pretty strong words for a company being outsold by one with technology so outdated that it’s practically last-gen.
Comment by Llama Demon — Jun 27, 2007 @ 10:44 pm
Here’s my opinion on this whole blog: I looked at the updates, and nothing contains blogger opinion in any of the two or three months I checked the history for. It was all stories that were geared like press releases, aside from one letter to the editor article. I saw some very basic hardware/software Q and A, new screenshots, and things like that. I tried to listen to the podcast, but I have to apologize, I honestly had a hard time listening to the thick British accents the people talking had, which is my problem, I’m geared more to hear Japanese and Chinese accents from the school I attend.
Now, I have to say that I don’t trust Sony PR anymore. They’ve done too many underhanded things. The PS2 did not offer Toy Story graphics, the computer processor was not anymore complex than anything at the time, and there was no reason to fear people using these chips in missiles, even though that was a rumor at the time.
The PS3 does not offer 4D gaming, and it is too expensive to be worthwhile with what it currently offers, and home seems like a glorified combination of a cheap MMORPG and a way to leech out micropayments to me.
The PSP was never carpet, and it can actually be tough to watch it outside. The battery life stinks for about half of the time I need a portable gaming machine, and all I don’t want for Christmas is a planted fake raver about the PSP.
I read the comments for this post, and you know what? I can’t trust that anything I read here is from a consumer or fan. I can’t help but get a picture of the Xmas deal, among other things, and I truly believe that most comments are plants by the advertising company contracted out by Sony to do this ‘blog.’ To me, that’s a problem. That’s a disconnect from the consumer and the PR team, and that’s just sad. I own a PS and a PS2, but that was despite advertisement. Now, the two new platforms are a weaker, and are not maintaining the majority of titles being released, instead, losing these titles to the Wii, 360, and DS. I can’t see a reason buy these systems now, and I’m literally afraid to look for a reason, for fear of another PR scam. So, “Semi-Official Blog,” tell your overlords to just be honest, and show off what this is all about, the games and consoles, and for now, work to regain trust, and then work on creating podcasts, media sites, or whatever these things are, because right now, they scare people away.

I’ve just listened to the whole podcast.
The Internet has one commodity. Trust.
The viewers have to believe the creaters. And with this sites ambiguity thats impossible. How about a detailed explanation of the site. Answer these questions:
* Are you being paid by Sony, it’s marketing department, or by others on behalf of Sony to make this site? It seems the answer is yes.
* Are you given free reign to voice your true opinions? It seems the answer is no.
* What are Sony’s aims with this site?
I am ashamed. This site, and the podcast is so “on-topic” that it beggers belief. It’s like a concerted effort to “push” “hard-core” opinion on the Sony Brand products.
At no point did I see a genuine criticism of any of the platforms. And minor criticism was quickly distorted back into something positive.
Sony wins no fans by trying to insidiously promote itself in this way. To try and have it’s cake and eat it.
And I pity those involved. Because it’s clear you have asperations in the games media field and you’ve damaged your CV beyond repair with job.
I want Sony to do well with the PS3. The ability to install Linux (and thus Myth TV etc) will mean I’m far more likely to buy one over the 360. But this kind of marketing is truly offensive.
Comment by Lave — Jun 28, 2007 @ 4:51 pm
If anyone wants to read my personal blog they will see that I am a student and not a Sony employee or a mouthpiece for Sony PR.
I offered to host a ThreeSpeech podcast as myself and the other hosts run and podcast on red-rant.com
Those of you that are complaining about our “thick British accents” I urge you to think how us Europeans feel. 99% of podcasts are American based meaning we have to listen to foreign sounding voices all the time. I’m sure European listeners appreciated hearing some British accents.
Everybody needs to chill out and remember, they were a few comments made by me. I thought they were totally justified and informed, I’ll admit they were hostile.
Comment by Ben Furneaux — Jun 28, 2007 @ 7:01 pm
And I’ll admit it wasn’t the best podcast in the world, but remember it was episode 1, our first try. Everyone needs to start somewhere and we’ll take aboard the informed criticism.
We’ve gotten a lot of press, we now have listeners (whether they like us or otherwise) and we’re going to try really hard to nail down a great format and produce a solid show.

Even if it was your “first try”, a little editing and maybe a listen through or two goes a long way, unless of course you guys are broadcasting live, in which case I guess I’ll say, nevermind.
PS2 rules, and I don’t own a 360 (yet). No, I didn’t listen to the podcast, but if you want to make an edited version without all the commentary against non-Sony types then I’ll consider giving episode 2 a listen, and no, I don’t listen to the Major, I’m usually a TWiT, or Digg Nation type of guy (although Digg.com is starting to piss me off too).

Comment by heh — Jun 28, 2007 @ 8:18 pm
Hi Ben.
I see that your a student. But it’s also clear that this isn’t an independent podcast. A honest explanation of all of your relationships with Sony would be appreciated. No one can listen that podcast and come away with the idea it was an independent producton. It came across more like an advert. As I said on my comment that was deleted Trust is the only commodity on the internet.
Your comments were justified and informed. But *you* van’t say them when you seem so much worse!
If you want a job in this field after uni - then I think this blog may damage your chances unless you explain what this blog actually is.
And people should shut up about your accents. I think there wonderful. And much clearer than mine, It seems americans can only understand the posh fake English accent.
Good luck!

“Evan get off your high horse! Just because one guy who posts at ThreeSpeech criticizes a MS blog site you get upset? Guess what, lots of people don’t like the MS PR machine, what’s wrong with saying so?”
You’re being a complete hypocrite. You get mad at me for criticizing ThreeSpeech, yet you admit there’s nothing wrong with criticizing Microsoft? …What?
@59
Seems to me like you’re the fanboy here. I’m not an “xbot” or whatever you like to call it. I bought a PS1 and PS2 (and Gamecube, Xbox, etc), and I support all consoles.
And I seriously doubt you have listened to Major Nelson’s podcasts. He doesn’t bash Sony, or any other console for that matter. In fact, when he got a Wii, he posted “Yes, I finally got a Wii!” So please, stop making up stories just to win an arguement.
Anyways, it’s sad that ThreeSpeech felt the need to insult their competitors, especially in their first podcast. It was just not needed, and quite frankly stupid.
Now hopefully you can reply to this message without making anything up.
Comment by Evan — Jun 28, 2007 @ 11:42 pm
@Lave - I have said again, and again, and again that I am not on any Sony payroll, I don’t get anything from them! I have no idea how I can prove otherwise! You, and many others, are totally blowing this way out of proportion.
I understand in the past Sony has been overtly viral but I can assure you I am not an example of that. Don’t you think they learned from their mistakes? The reason why Three Speech keeps it’s posters anonymous is because they all come from one person!
Comment by Ben Furneaux — Jun 28, 2007 @ 11:47 pm
Also, if I WAS an affiliate do you really think I’d say something like that? I’d be quite fired by now! My comments were about 2 minutes of an hour long podcast, I wasn’t just digging at Major Nelson. I was specifically comparing and contrasting the marketing styles between the two companies.
Comment by Ben Furneaux — Jun 28, 2007 @ 11:51 pm
This doesn’t sound so much like a “semi-official” podcast with veiled funds from Sony. That is how I heard about this. It just sounds like a fan podcast. Which is fine, there are wii and xbox fan podcasts so why can’t there be a PS fan podcast? And I can’t imagine a semi-official podcast would call their listeners “rabble” when talking about the home beta.
Overall, it sounded like a good podcast though. The only thing I had an issue with is attacking Msoft’s PR. First of all, all PR is crap. By design, it is a department to (mis)inform and brainwash it’s target audience. But for someone to defend sony PR and attack MS is just funny. Major Nelson is listen on the official xbox site with links to his site from it. He says 100 times per show that he works for MS and that he is recording it in their building. MS PR may be dumb but at least they don’t put out crap like:
-those terrible “this is living” videos
-the “All I want for Chrismas is a PSP” fiasco
-eviscerated goats at parties
-billboards of white chicks choking black chicks
-ps2 banners about sluts that piss off India.
-etc
Stick with talking about what you like about Sony. Nobody cares about how you feel about competitors. It just makes your show sound petty. With the criticism off my chest, I’d just like to say, keep making shows, this was your first one so they will only get better.

@Ben Furneaux - If you weren’t on a Sony payrol, you wouldn’t have fired back like that. If you are so offended by the fact some people believe you are on the payroll for Sony, then let them think that. Don’t fire back, because now i’m more inclined to believe that you are on a Sony payroll.
But thats just my opinion, do what you like.

Thanks for the reply. If you are not getting paid by Sony, and getting asked again and again, why don’t you update the threespeech website. It’s so vague, and Sony past record so dubious, thats it’s clear people will worry.
Why not a front page article detailing what you mean by “Semi official” and what all your relationships with sony are - and put this distrust to rest. The longer you don’t the more people will mistrust the site.
Comment by Lave — Jun 29, 2007 @ 11:21 am
@Lave - Because I have no control of ThreeSpeech. I don’t have a log in or access to admin. Everything that goes us has to be emailed to blog@threespeech.com where it then gets moderated and put up.
If you want to have an article, podcast or something posted n Three Speech you could, write something interesting and informed and email it to TS.
I have as little control as to what hit’s ThreeSpeech’s front page as anyone posting in this thread.

See… this is exactly the thing you guys do not need. This site has said many times since its inception that you are the ‘Semi-official’ word on all things Playstation. I think a lot of people who listened to the podcast were hoping that you would explain yourselves in the first episode. What is holding you back from coming clean and telling everyone who you are and what you do?
I do not agree with a lot of the Microsoft PR, however, I find most of what Sony does for PR to be far-far-far-far worse. Every time I hear about the next Sony PR fiasco I just cringe and wonder what they were thinking. I imagine your comments were justified, but this was not the place to express them; Especially when you tried to write Sony off as a PR angel.
By the way… speaking of Sony PR… What is the ‘This is Living’ ad campaign trying to sell anyway? Is Sony giving out vacation getaways? Watching the ads I sure would not call that place my ideal place to visit.

You’d be great at marketing. Comparing and contrasting marketing styles? You started by flat-out name calling.
I also notice you’ve avoided attempting to defend your stab at religion. Probably a good idea, too.
I cannot understand why there are obviously two facets at work here:
1) an inflammatory podcast
2) an apologetic whiter-than-white podcast retraction in the form of a blog.
At best its insincere, at worst its lies.

You are not an example of that. Ramp Media, the viral advertising firm that runs THREESPEECH is though.
And thats immoral.
Go to rampindustry.com click on the “general idea” to read about their “strategy branding and positioning” and then click on “ramp content” and then “check out our work” to see “Threespeech.”

This site, and the podcast is so “on-topic†that it beggers belief. It’s like a concerted effort to “push†“hard-core†opinion on the Sony Brand products.

Gotta love it when Penny Arcade tells the world that you guys sound like your accents come from sucking sony off. Im sure you already read it. The comic and blog post from the 27th?
I mean, even if you love/hate penny arcade, when this blog got linked on their main page with THAT in the comic… gee guys I wonder how much credibility you have left with people.
GL is a perfect example of your site and its ‘fanbase’. Rather than supporting their own console or choices with good statements, you launch attacks on others.
Only SONY has had an eviscerated goat at a party, only SONY has put the money into a false raver site complete with shitty rap DISGUSING itself as a legitimate fan op, only SONY is currently the media whipping boy, only SONY has a huge financial loss right now from POOR marketing.
(Guys, I love the console, I’d own a PS3 in a heartbeat with a 200 dollar lower price… 499ish would be awesome)
But this is what you get, Threespeech, an internet dumping full of hate, linked on multiple blogs and comic sites with words of vile and spit aimed at you, even from a lot of sony fans.
Nothing sounds so false and pretentious like a site claiming to be ’semi-official’, trying to get an audience to take it seriously, and then in its very first podcast rather than discussing the different aspects of the ps3 and addressing peoples concerns, taking shots at the ‘other guys’ marketing and PR. LOL. Look at SONYS marketing and PR… you think thats BETTER? Gimmie a break.
I hope the advert company you work for really isn’t getting paid by Sony, cause you’ll lose your jobs soon enough. Its one thing to be biased when you’re a legitimate fan site… that way nobody will listen to you or care except extremist fans, but when you’re dancing around the ’semi official’ word and you act like that, it leaves a shitty taste in my mouth.

And to find out if you’re being censored or not, people, REALLY EASY BECAUSE THREESPEECH IS STUPID
1) Have a copy of firefox and internet explorer open. Look at this page
2) Log in to your regular account with firefox, look at what you’ve posted, then look at what your internet explorer ‘not logged in’ page is showing you
3) Bingo, you can see if you’re being censored, because any comments that are will NOT appear in your IE page.

Also, if you want to know of a good time-length for a podcast, I would keep it at around 90 minutes or less. That seems to work for the other gaming podcasts.
And just give up the whole un/official blog thing. Just tell us you work for Sony and be done with the junk.
Thanks.
