Resistance: Fall of Man is to get a new update, according to Gamespy Among the updates to the title are two new maps, Westmorland and Camborne, as well as unified servers which will allow for global play. Another new feature is a much easier method of muting players in multiplayer due to a new mute menu, and you can apparently use the same in-game menu to report suspected cheaters to a moderator who can then observe them in real time and decide if they’re breaking the rules or not. Also, if you tend to leave games early then Insomniac have added a penalty time during which you can’t start or join another game for a period of time depending on how many matches you’ve just quit out of.
Lastly, they report there will be an update to team online play, so it will be easier to tell who’s on your team or not. The update is supposed to be ready for the US in May, though we’re guessing it’s over-run a little, and the rest of the world will receive it shortly after.
Sweet!! some new maps will be cool. can’t wait

dont forget to say that the 2 new maps are not free ($7.99 in the US, 7,99€ in europe outside UK)

Dang, if I could play Resistance in HD on my 1080i-only tv I’d be all over this. I’m holding out hope that someday they will patch it to scale up like Virtua Fighter does.

Does thing ring any bells? (about Motorstorm 2 weeks ago)…
“Smith said: This free update is already sitting on the PlayStation Network, waiting for you to download it.”

free?

@#4:
Virtua Fighter doesn’t scale. No PS3 games scale. Some games support resolutions above 720p, but so far none scale.

Good, apart from the penalty if you quit a ranked match. My internet is a bit dodgy and disconnects every so often… so that’ll be a bit stupid.
Comment by Tom Eccles — May 30, 2007 @ 10:42 pm
You know this has been delayed in SCEE regions, although the update is going ahead Europe will have to wait for the maps, excpect a press release from sony tomorrow
Comment by Tom — May 30, 2007 @ 11:47 pm
I will be waiting for this!
Comment by Wormhole — May 31, 2007 @ 12:38 am
So where is this update? I just checked online resistance and noting. The Ranked matches are still empty and the rooms are still full of one hit kills with unlimited ammo.
Comment by Carl — May 31, 2007 @ 2:24 am
Awesome! I just sincerely hope that it’s not too far away. I am terrible at waiting for anything. Unless it’s like waiting to go to the dentist, or waiting for a movie to convert (I guess the movie thing is because I can see the bar - which shows the progress). But, anyway, I’m really looking forward to the global play function. Wonderful that Insomniac can support their titles to this degree, when they’re also working on Ratchet and Clank, and probably other projects!

Swrrt they have delayed these maps to whenever in europe thanks to scee. Wow how shit are the people running scee online psn store they cant get anything out there to download, wheres calling all cars im still waiting now i have to wait for the two new maps past 7th june because i live in europe way to go sony way to make other companys look like they know how to wipe there arses.
Comment by Mad Mackem — May 31, 2007 @ 6:20 am
Disconnection penalty is *good*, this should help cut down on the leaving abuse/griefing, where as soon as a side starts losing a little bit, many players quit to avoid having their rank affected, which pretty much guarantees a loss.
What’s not good is the exchange rate $7.99 to €7.99, it should be €5.99. The dollar is a weak currency nowadays, it would be nice to acknowledge it and stop shafting us Euros… especially since the Euro PSN cannot be said to offer a better service than the US PSN… (Euro PSN Store is still an embarrassment)
Comment by john — May 31, 2007 @ 6:23 am
They havent “delayed” the release in Europe, they never even announced a release date for Europe.
Its released 7th June in US and Japan, with the EU release still to be confirmed - according to Insomniac.
Comment by Tom Eccles — May 31, 2007 @ 12:10 pm
@ john :
If you think the european store is an embarassment then you probably haven’t seen the individual store-sites of other european countries like especially… germany for example! ^_°!
Compared to the german ps-store the european store REALLY IS something (!). For german users there are only blast factor, flow, lemmings, q-bert (new), sodoku, super rub-a-dub, tekken-dr (new!)… and a few (very few) trailers available and that’s about it! ;(
And every single download (not only the games, but also the trailers and demos) took AGES to be released over here.
For example it took $ony almost three (!) months to offer Tekken Dark Ressurection in germany, because of considerations about our youth-restrictions and if they could even bring it at all in the german store, because there could have been the possibility of minors downloading the game (!)
…Although USK16-rated-games are NOT AT ALL sales-restricted in germany… only games which are considered USK”18″ / “keine Jugendfreigabe” are restricted for youngsters and only allowed to be sold to adults.
*weird word*
Comment by CoDshin — May 31, 2007 @ 12:27 pm
ooops!
sorry !
that should have been : *weird world*… and “restricted to youngsters”… and a few other mistakes I made there… I hope none of you native speakers mind my bad english ! ^_^!
Comment by CoDshin — May 31, 2007 @ 12:33 pm
I don’t mind bad english. I’m British, and I’ve been told off about my bad language. Ha ha ha!
While I don’t mind the penalty for early quiters, what about on a conversion game? I hope we’re not penalised if we leave after we’ve died on that game mode!
I still want an open map and some transport to play with please.
Comment by LordOfRuin — May 31, 2007 @ 1:54 pm
codshin that all we have on the europe store games wise. No cac nothing. This update shows once again how bad scee is of getting content out its a map pack for god sake its run like a two bit operation live map packs come out in all areas at once.
Comment by Mad Mackem — May 31, 2007 @ 4:02 pm
well the new map Camborne is an actual place in England and i live like 10 miles away from it!
Comment by James — May 31, 2007 @ 4:19 pm
When do we get an official SCEE update for this?
Comment by Mick — May 31, 2007 @ 5:11 pm
7th June says Sony: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=165012
Comment by Obli — May 31, 2007 @ 9:26 pm
Thats for us, they are working on getting the euro one out the same time working just like they were working on getting a worldwide launch going ha.
Comment by Mad Mackem — Jun 1, 2007 @ 12:41 pm
Online content is all well and good, but what could it hurt in them throwing us out a new level for the campagine? Like a teaser for pasrt 2… maybe it doesn’t even have to have hale in it. Maybe it could be ol’ girl…
I dunno… Online is amazing… but I’d like more single player stuff to do. It’s the bulk of the game, to me. Oh, well… 8 bucks for 2 maps… They better be made with Ted Price’s Golden tear drops. All I gotta say… I don’t like that swere looking level already. It looks just like the subway… they should’ve niipped that one in favor for something better.
Comment by gamesblow — Jun 2, 2007 @ 12:19 pm
@#4 - me too
@#7- You have no idea what you are talking about. VF5 is a 720p game that uses the new-ish “partial” scaling so that 1080i users don’t get screwed like they do by R:FoM. Ninja Gaiden and a few others use this too. Those of us that this affects know this. Since this probably doesn’t affect you, I’ll just assume you have not done your research.
Comment by somebody — Jun 4, 2007 @ 5:58 pm
Well according to scea us lowly euros wont be getting this map pack just yet. More info coming soon said a pr release from scea. This is not on, why does europe get screwd everytime map packs games psn content man im so close to giving up on my ps3 as it plain to see they are going to continue to treat us like third rate consumers.
Comment by Mad Mackem — Jun 6, 2007 @ 7:06 am
