Absolutely fantastic. Once this baby gets mainstream acceptance, there will be no stopping the PS3 in dominating this generation. Microsoft and the 360 can kiss their sorry unreliable @sses back where it belongs - making PC software…

So… the PlayStation 3… It’s finally made it to British soil. And what a rocky road it’s had. Since it’s very inception it has been plagued by delays, technical and budgetary constraints, PR blunders and a whole swathe of attacks on it from opposing sides and their respective supporters. But if the previous generation of games consoles taught us anything, it’s that to many people, gaming is a religion and with it comes all the foibles and fanaticisms that we’ve come to expect.

The endless websites I’ve visited trying to get the latest information and previews. The downloaded trailers I’ve watched, the money I’ve spent on accessories such as a plasma TV and a wireless keyboard. It seems an age since I first decided I wanted a PS3, but not as long as it seemed today, as I sat waiting for the courier to arrive with my new bundle of joy.

Check these links for a video review of the PS3 provided by Three Speech regular Kropotkin. A third part will follow shortly.
The PS3 has to be the most talked about console since the original
Playstation but for very different reasons. Back in 1995 Sony was the
underdog trying the usurp the throne of the then mighty SEGA and Nintendo.
Sony turned the gaming industry on its head and pushed it into the
mainstream thanks to the original PSX as it was once known. 12 years later
things couldn’t be more different. Sony are the dominant force in video
games and everyone, and I mean everyone, wants to knock them off of their
perch. I believe that this has a great deal to do with the volley after
volley of attacks the PS3 console has had to withstand since its first
appearance at E3 2006. That and the continued rampant foot-in-mouth disease
that has spread throughout the executives of SCEI.
PART 1
Despite the tirade of abuse that the PS3 has endured over the past year or
so. Despite the vilification of people who express any positive opinions
about the PS3. Despite the odd belief expressed by Sony executives that
giant enemy crabs existed in feudal Japan and took part in major battles
during that period. Despite all of that, I was determined to get one because
I knew that yes, it fairs badly when compared to online play when compared
against the XBox 360, which I also own. Yes, it is very expensive for a
games console but dirt cheap for a Blu-ray player but that’s another
discussion all together. Yes, the system does not have a ‘killer app’ in the
same way XBox and XBox 360 has with Halo/Gears of War. But it does have one
thing that I think pips it to the post, but only just. Potential. Having
played on the system for a considerable amount of time and messed around
with the media set up and the Playstation Network shop I am convinced that
provided Sony guide the PS3 through these ever so choppy waters the machine
will succeed. All Sony needs is a good pilot!
PART 2
To emphasis my point I have created a series of videos that act a guide to
all things that is the PS3. Part 1 of the video is a hardware guide where I
describe in detail the PS3 console and its peripherals. In the second video
I give a guided tour of the Cross Media Bar aka XMB which is the PS3’s front
end interface. Finally, in the last video I have taken a selection of the
top selling PAL launch titles for the PS3 and let the gameplay footage do
all the talking.
PART 3
I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I did making them.

There’s been a lot of mixed opinion about PlayStation’s adverts in recent times, so all credit to them for pushing the boundaries with the new ‘This is Living’ campaign, which invites the audience into a multi-character drama, and is designed to be as entertaining, interactive and evolving as the product itself.
As the campaign progresses, the audience will be invited to stumble upon clues relating to the existence of the characters and the mysterious hotel – from pictures of Cherry on Flickr, to the hotel and avatars of the characters existing in Second Life, each channel of communication is designed to add another dimension to the story.
Darren Carter, Vice President Brand Marketing – SCEE goes on to tell us: “With the launch of PlayStation 3 it has been important to acknowledge that our audience’s expectations are constantly changing and we have to keep pace with that change. They no longer want to be advertised to. This campaign is not designed to be passive. It asks our consumers to get involved”.
