PlayStation offered Three Speech the opportunity to get hands on with one of the few consumer consoles over here in the UK. Complete with Version 3.1 Firmware, we were able to check out the online and remote play functions, along with many of the new options that the PS3 Xcross Media bar provides.
To demonstrate all this, we invited the guys at IGN over and filmed them while they took the PS3 firmly through its paces.

Nice, I did this last night and it works without a hitch. I can’t wait for the day when you can take your PSP with you and communicate with your PS3 friends-not to mention continue to play that downloadable PS3 game against them on your PSP.

A question.
When the whole “You can access your PS3 using your PSP on a hotspot wherever you are in the world thingy” happens, will the PS3 have to be ON, or will it be possible to access the XMB whilst its on standby?
Another question. Is the previous question too far in the future?!

I have a question as well, since you’re able to access the PS3 remotely, can you access the Playstation Store remotely as well? It would be nice to log in through your PSP to your PS3 while you’re at work and have some demos, trailers, possibly even movies (in the future of course) downloading and then be able to watch them at your leisure.
The remote play looks very nice, by the way.

Nice video, erm, showing off the, erm, remote play, erm.
Anyway, apparently the browser over remote play on the PSP is impossible to read text on. They need to add a zoom obviously.
Nice to see the browser supports the latest flash player too

That’s really cool I’ve been waiting for features like this on a console for a really long time. So much possibilities in the future too.

you notice the guys psp has a lot more stuff than our current version? he must be using a beta version of 3.10 or something!

It would be nice too if they could implement the use of the PSP in some games as an optional extra display. For example the player’s inventory or a minimap, etc.

What happens if you use Remote Play to access a game on the PS3? Interesting thought…
BTW: Those videos kind of made me a whole lot more interested in the PS3, I might be picking one up on launch here in the Uk now…

I want to be able to use my psp as a PS3 controller now. I heard the update is coming, and I am sick of the explanations. I want to see the display being used to disguise my plays in madden or to see my rear view in Ridge racer, like you guys promissed so long ago. F you Sony !
