Understandably, a lot of media/blogs have picked up on the suggestion in the Phil Harrison interview we ran last Thursday that the PS3 would not be launching in Europe in March ‘07.
We contacted the PlayStation press office to see if they could clarify the issue at all. Here’s what they came back with by email -
“Phil was taken out of context, in so much as he declined to comment on how many units would be available for the launch, but we’re still fully committed and on track for March.”
I’m thinking positive!

Even though Harrison is, or used to have titles, corporate executive and representative director of SCE Inc, when he was appointed President of SCEWW Studios, he took the role of leader of regional product development. Now, when I think of the PS3, even though its gonna get sold in all regions, its not a region specific developped product, because as far as we know, Sony branches from all over the world contributed to its design.
Harrison is specifically tied to regional software development studios, and so when people ask him about hardware development timelines, he probably has no idea. I think its fair for him to skip commenting on the European launch date.

Well, I hope they manage to get on track for a march launch.
why?
because sony has consistently left us european gamers out in the cold. I am not even going to start on the time it took foe the psp to be released.
lets face it too - while the ps2 was a resounding sucess in NA and japan - but europe cemented the ps2 as the most succesful console of that generation
Sony - DO NOT FAIL US!!!

It really wouldn’t surprise me if the UK release of PS3 was delayed.
It’s no less than what I’d expect of Phil Harrison.
If I can possibly help, I will be importing a PS3 before then.
