Phil Harrison’s recent comments regarding the master ID that you obtain once you are registered onto your PS3 has been creating a stir. Mainly by those worrying that, due to the PS3’s early release in the US and Japan, by the time the PS3 launches in Europe all of the decent usernames will have been taken.
Well have no fear, we’ve been informed by PlayStation that when the PS3 launches in the US on 17th November, the rest of the world will be able to register their usernames online at the PlayStation Store via your PC.
I think this is a great move by Sony, because even though Europeans won’t be able to own a PS3 console until next March, they *will*, however, be able to contribute and support the community by registering their unique ID names.
cheers.

Excellent news.. and even though we Europeans will not be able to buy the PS3 until March, perhaps even August or even December of 2007 we will at least be proud owners of our very own nickname.
Appreciated Sony! - Always going that extra mile to keep your Euro contingent content.

do they have the site already running for the japan launch. so could north america register early or is it all registers start the 17th?
Comment by mycococo — Nov 10, 2006 @ 9:19 pm
Excellent news! I assume us Canucks can get in on this as well?
Comment by _leech_ — Nov 10, 2006 @ 10:36 pm
Hmmm, yeh, thats all euro gamers are worried about, all usernames being taken up. Were not worried about a possible 6 month delay at all.
Comment by Jon — Nov 10, 2006 @ 10:59 pm
Amazing! I can’t wait.
Comment by The514 — Nov 11, 2006 @ 2:16 am
I hope UK/European users be guaranteed access to the Playstation store. Currently it filters out non-USA residents!
-and im desperate to secure my name.
Comment by Andronis — Nov 11, 2006 @ 2:19 am
Excellent! I hope noone from Japan whould have the urge to register my ID.
Comment by Fivos — Nov 11, 2006 @ 2:22 am
That’s good news! Does this mean that all the items on the Playstation store can be browsed through via a computer?
Comment by ericthespy — Nov 11, 2006 @ 4:09 am
This is BS …. so we get robbed of 50% of PS3’s Launch Importance
Half of the people that are buying PS3 at launch are making such an effort to do so / just for this and now we get robbed
due to sympathetic SCEA …. BS !
Now my name Is going to be stolen by some scrub
JUST GREAT ! Im not buying PS3
Comment by Grim — Nov 11, 2006 @ 4:47 am
The comment above me makes no sense whatsoever..what stops you from registering the name you want on the 17th? Just silly..
Comment by Mike — Nov 11, 2006 @ 7:40 pm
Watch out Grim, your comment might be removed. I critiscised the over-priced thing here before and mine was removed. We should all buy a 360 in protest

Sorry, but ‘where’ is the Playstation Store on the internet?
What is the web address?
Comment by Andronis — Nov 12, 2006 @ 7:22 pm
just get HDMI for your xbox360 it’s gonna cost ya 299…
xbox360 isn’t cheaper.
Comment by mark — Nov 13, 2006 @ 1:58 am
Sony are following in Microsoft footsteps YET AGAIN.
Only Microsoft let reserve your gamertag before the 360 was even released.
Hopefully sometime soon, something about the PS3 won’t come across as an after thought… although it looks like it’s going to be some time before we can put ‘games’ in that category… or the controller… or the manufacturing schedule… or the european launch… or… oh sod it, let’s just all buy a Wii and forget it.
Comment by jamie — Nov 13, 2006 @ 12:08 pm
Obviously Jamie has overlooked all of the innovations that Sony has created in advance of Microsoft and Nintendo. Good going
Comment by Gul — Nov 13, 2006 @ 12:28 pm
Gul, like motion sensing controllers? Online service with store? Analog sticks? Rumble?
Ohh, you mean failed media formats like betamax and MiniDisk …. ya, your right, Go Sony!
Comment by Scazza — Nov 13, 2006 @ 1:59 pm
let’s also not forget the huge huge HUGE hit that UMD has been…
Comment by jamie — Nov 13, 2006 @ 2:12 pm

How, then, do we sign up?
Comment by jamie — Nov 13, 2006 @ 5:27 pm
[...] You know, all this name talk has got me thinking though. What’s the best/worst/funniest gamer tag you have seen? Xbox Live, Wow, City of Heroes - anything at all. Source: [ThreeSpeech] [...]

I think i’ve found the site. (at least the american one). The Playstation store is at:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Store?ref=http%3A//www.sony.com/index.php
Obviously it’s not online yet, so it comes up with an error. But i found it by going to sony.com, (the american site) and navigating to SHOP-GAMING AND MULTIMEDIA-PLAYSTATION STORE.
Comment by James Lewis Arthur Banks — Nov 16, 2006 @ 4:47 pm

Any update on this please, I’m a UK user and will be a PS3 owner when it’s launched over here.
In the meantime I’m keen to reserve my account name via my PC as per Phil Harrison’s comments above.
If anyone finds a link, please post or in the case of site admin a new article would be nice.
Cheers.
Comment by Alan (UK) — Nov 17, 2006 @ 10:39 am
As an update, I’ve just telephoned Sony UK’s Playstation Network call centre (+44 (0)8702 422 299)
http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowArticle.action?article=11581551744
58&site=odw_en_GB
Needless to say they know absolutely nothing about Phil Harrison’s comments and have no idea what the URL is for PC based registration.
The guy I spoke to relayed our conversation to his manager who apologised for not knowing anything about it, promised to look into the issue and asked me to call back later in the day.
In the meantime if anyone finds the link, please post it as soon as you are able.
Cheers.

C’mon Sony/3Speech give us europeans the website to register!!!
Comment by Angelus3K — Nov 17, 2006 @ 12:44 pm
WOW hasn;t this been another example of how well organised the PS3 launch as been.
Does the online registration even exist?
Comment by jamie — Nov 17, 2006 @ 1:32 pm
This sounds like more Phil Harrison lies to me.
The store only mentions registration via the console.
Comment by Steddyman — Nov 17, 2006 @ 1:45 pm
This link from the US Playstation website shows it can be done via PC:
http://www.us.playstation.com/content/sites/176/info/network/registration_process.html#PC_account
All we need now is the link to do it !!!
Comment by Alan (UK) — Nov 17, 2006 @ 3:03 pm

Comment by jenny — Nov 17, 2006 @ 4:36 pm

Comment by Tom — Nov 17, 2006 @ 11:00 pm
Well Allow Me to Clarify / I camped out for 26 hours and didnt get a PS3 because a Family of 7 took 7 out of 10 available PS3’s and I was 11th in Line
I wanted one at Launch for 1 Reason and that was to Register My Name Before some scrub who has no creativity which is the ultimate sign of ” Lacking intelligence ” Steals it
Whatever Happened to 1 per household
we all should have been able to register our names at the same time Not just the Europeans
Comment by Grim — Nov 18, 2006 @ 2:01 am
No one has been able to register their handle via pc - ANYWHERE!! This is absolutly crap. Sony should just front up and tell everyone what’s really going on.
